What You’ll Be Doing:

Job Summary:

As a Database Administrator, you are a recognized technical expert responsible for the end-to-end performance, availability, security, and cloud modernization of critical enterprise database and data platform systems. You support and maintain database migration projects, engineer high-availability architectures, perform deep performance diagnostics, integrate database operations into modern DevOps/DataOps and Data Engineering workflows, and contribute to Fabric/Azure data platform maturity. You bridge database administration and engineering teams raising the technical standard of the team.

Essential Functions

·         Lead complex administration and optimization of mission-critical SQL Server and Azure SQL environments; architect and configure Always On Availability Groups, geo-replication, Azure failover groups, and HADR workflows to meet RPO/RTO objectives.

·         Lead database migration projects (on-premises SQL Server to Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, or IaaS), utilizing Azure Database Migration Service (DMS) and hybrid network integration patterns.

·         Perform advanced performance engineering: deep wait-stat analysis, blocking/deadlock mitigation, complex T-SQL tuning, Query Store and Extended Events diagnostics, and index strategy redesign.

·         Implement and enforce advanced security controls: Always Encrypted, Dynamic Data Masking, Row-Level Security (RLS), Azure Key Vault integration, Purview sensitivity labeling, and STIG/SOC 2 baseline configurations.

·         Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment pipelines using Terraform or Bicep; integrate database schema migrations and deployments into Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions CI/CD workflows.

·         Configure and operate Microsoft Fabric workspaces, Lakehouses, Warehouses, and integration pipelines; manage Fabric capacity scaling, workspace access models, and operational support runbooks.

·         Partner with data engineering, architecture, governance, and application teams to improve data quality, lineage tracking, metadata completeness, and platform service delivery.

·         Contribute to governance execution by configuring Microsoft Purview data cataloging, verifying data lineage, and enforcing data classification standards.

·         Conduct root cause analysis for complex incidents; lead post-incident reviews and present findings and remediation plans to technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

·         5+ years of hands-on production database administration and cloud data platform experience in enterprise environments.

·         Mastery of SQL Server internals: locking, blocking, latching, memory pressure, tempdb contention, and execution plan deep-dives.

·         Experience with Azure SQL PaaS services, including Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, Elastic Pools, and Hyperscale, as well as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cosmos DB. Familiarity with hybrid cloud networking concepts such as VNets and Private Endpoints.

·         Hands-on experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Bicep) and CI/CD platforms (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).

·         Practical experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, pipelines) and Azure data services (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, or Databricks).

·         Experience implementing enterprise security frameworks including RBAC, Always Encrypted, DLP, Purview sensitivity labels, and audit configurations.

·         Strong ability to communicate root cause findings, technical recommendations, and platform updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Certifications

·         Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)
