Privacy Policy
1. Who we are, and what this page covers
LikeRemote is a job board for remote work. This page says what we do with your information, in plain words. WE ARE THE CONTROLLER of that information. That means we decide what is collected and why, and the promises on this page are ours to keep. LikeRemote is run by one person, not a company with a privacy department, so the address in section 14 reaches somebody who can act. This page covers the website at likeremote.com and the LikeRemote browser extension. Section 11 is about the extension in particular, because it is the part that works on somebody else's page. We do not sell your information, to anybody, ever, and we do not use it for advertising.
2. What we collect
YOUR ACCOUNT. The email address you sign in with, whether you have confirmed it, and the time zone your browser reports. YOUR PROFILE. Your name, a contact email address, a phone number, where you live, your current company, a headline, and any links you add to LinkedIn, GitHub, a portfolio or a website. Your years of experience, seniority, education level, industry and skills. Whether you need visa sponsorship. Your work history and your education, whether you type them in or we read them out of your CV. YOUR CV. The file itself, and a cover letter if you upload one. One of each; a new upload replaces the old file. WHAT YOU DO WITH JOBS. The jobs you like, the ones you mark as not interested, the companies you block or hide, and the applications you make, with whether each one worked and when. YOUR SEARCHES. A filter you save, the name you give it, and whether you want an email when a new job matches it. THE RAW SEARCH TERM is part of that: the words you type into the search box are kept with a saved filter, appear in the address of the page, and are sent to our analytics along with the rest of the filter. They are trimmed, made lower case and cut at 100 characters first. We do not attempt to remove a name or an address you type into that box, so please do not type one. WHAT THE BROWSER EXTENSION SENDS. Section 11. RECORDS THAT METER WHAT YOU USE. A ticket for each application you start, and one line each time we ask the AI to read your CV, so that a daily allowance can be counted. THE OPTIONAL EQUAL-OPPORTUNITY ANSWERS. Section 5. WHEN YOU REPORT A JOB OR SEND US FEEDBACK. A report collects what you tell us, the page you were on, and the technical details we need to understand the problem, such as your browser and the version you were using. WHAT WE NEVER COLLECT. Your card. Paying happens on Stripe's own pages and the card number never reaches us. We never take a copy of the pages you browse.
3. Why we use it, and what allows us to
TO GIVE YOU WHAT YOU ASKED FOR (a contract with you). Your profile, your CV and what it says, your applications, your saved filters and your account. Matching you to jobs from your own details is the service, so we do not ask for separate permission for it, and you cannot withdraw it and keep the service. You can close the account instead, and section 12 says what that does. BECAUSE YOU SAID YES (consent). Two things only: the equal-opportunity answers in section 5, and the analytics cookie described in section 10. Both can be taken back at any time, and taking them back never affects anything else. BECAUSE WE HAVE A FAIR REASON TO (legitimate interests). Keeping the product working and safe, stopping abuse of the parts that cost us money, measuring how the product is used so we can improve it, and noticing which job sites the extension meets so that we can cover them. You can object to any of this; write to us. BECAUSE THE LAW SAYS SO. Invoices for money you paid us are kept for tax. Section 12.
4. Your CV, and the outside service that reads it
WE SEND YOUR CV OUT OF OUR SYSTEM TO HAVE IT READ, and this is the part of this page worth reading twice. When you upload a CV we send the whole file, not a summary, to OPENROUTER. OpenRouter passes it to the AI model that reads it and gives us back the fields we then put into your profile. The models we use today are run by GOOGLE and by OPENAI. WE USE AI TO DO THIS, AND WHAT WE SEND MAY BE USED BY THE AI COMPANIES THEMSELVES. OpenRouter and the model's operator keep and use what we send them under their own rules and not ours. That can include keeping it for a period we do not set, using it to improve their own systems, and a person there seeing it. We do not control any of that and we will not promise you otherwise. We do not remove your name, your email address or your phone number before sending, because those are among the things we are asking to have read out of the file. IF YOU WOULD RATHER NOT, DO NOT UPLOAD ONE. Uploading a CV is optional, and there is a way to fill your profile in by hand on every screen that offers the upload. A profile typed in by hand is a complete profile, and nothing is sent to OpenRouter for it. Your CV file stays in our own private storage, which is not open to the public web, until you replace it or the account is deleted.
5. The optional equal-opportunity questions
Employers, mostly in the United States, are required to ask about race, gender, veteran status and disability. YOU NEVER HAVE TO ANSWER THEM. Every one of those questions has a prefer not to answer option, leaving them blank never affects an application, and we only ask you once, on a screen of their own with the box unticked. If you do answer, we encrypt your answers and keep the key OUTSIDE the database, so somebody who took a copy of our database could not open them. WHAT THAT DOES AND DOES NOT PROTECT, said plainly, because a vague claim here is worse than none. It protects against a stolen copy of the database. It does not protect the answers on your own computer, where the extension keeps a copy so that it can fill the forms without asking us every time. Every time the answers are decrypted is written down. We never use these answers to match you to jobs, they never appear in our statistics, and they are never shown to anybody except on an application form that you yourself send. You can delete them whenever you like. The encrypted answers are erased at once and there is no copy for us to bring back.
6. Who else touches your data
OUR SERVERS, rented from Oracle, an American company (Oracle Cloud). The website, the database and the file storage all run on one machine we rent from them, and that machine is in the United States. The database software is our own copy running on that machine, so there is no database company in this list. STRIPE takes the payments. It gets your email address, your name and your card details, and we never see the card. POSTHOG is our product analytics: which pages are opened, which buttons are pressed, and the filters described in section 2. It is joined to an anonymous id, and to your account once you have one. POSTHOG'S SERVERS ARE IN THE UNITED STATES, so those events leave Europe. RESEND sends the email we send you: the link that confirms your address, job alerts you asked for, and notices about your account. It gets your email address and what the message says. OPENROUTER, and the operator of the model behind it, read your CV. Section 4. GOOGLE, through the analytics tag on the website. In Europe it loads only after you accept the cookie banner; elsewhere it starts on the first page. Section 10. CLOUDFLARE sits in front of the website, so every request passes through it. It keeps a short technical record of requests and blocks attacks. We do not sell your information to any of them, or to anybody else, and none of them is paid for your information.
7. The browser extension
The extension has a section of its own, section 11, because it is the only part of LikeRemote that works on a page somebody else wrote. Section 11 says what it reads, what it sends us, and what stays on your own computer. Everything else on this page applies to it as well. It is not a separate product with separate rules.
8. How long we keep things
YOUR PROFILE, YOUR CV, YOUR SAVED FILTERS AND YOUR APPLICATION HISTORY are kept for as long as the account exists. Section 12 says what happens when it does not. SOME THINGS ARE DELETED WHETHER YOU ASK OR NOT, by a job that runs every night. Records of the pages where the extension tried to fill a form, and of the questions it could not answer: 30 days. The tickets that meter your applications, and the record of each time we asked the AI to read your CV: 90 days. Your application history is the lasting record, and it is not one of these. The CV of an account that never confirmed its email address: 7 days. AN ACCOUNT NOBODY SIGNS INTO. After 24 months we write to the address on it. If nobody signs in for another 30 days we delete the CV and everything we read out of it. ANALYTICS EVENTS are kept by our analytics provider under its own retention setting, not ours. BACKUPS. We take a backup of the database, and a backup can hold a copy of something for up to 30 days after it was deleted from the live system. That is normal, and hiding it would be worse than saying it.
9. What you can ask us to do
A COPY OF EVERYTHING. We build one archive holding your profile, work history and skills, the skills and words you told us to avoid, your saved filters, the dates you agreed to things and which wording you saw, your applications, your liked and not-interested jobs, your blocked companies, any reports you sent, your equal-opportunity answers in readable form, and your CV file under its own name. A CORRECTION. Most of it you can edit yourself on your profile. Anything you cannot, we will. DELETION. Section 12 says exactly what goes and what stays. TO TAKE BACK A YES. The equal-opportunity answers and the analytics cookie, in section 5 and section 10. TO OBJECT, or to ask us to stop using something for one of the fair reasons in section 3. HOW TO ASK. Write to the address in section 14 from the address on your account. We have one month to answer, and there is no charge. IF WE GET IT WRONG you can complain to the data protection authority where you live. Telling us first is usually faster, but you do not have to.
10. Cookies, security and children
COOKIES. Three kinds, and no more. One remembers that you are signed in, and the site cannot work without it. One remembers your answer to the cookie banner. One gives your visits an anonymous id so that reading three job pages and then signing up counts as one person rather than four. IN EUROPE NOTHING IS LOADED AND NO ID IS CREATED UNTIL YOU PRESS ACCEPT. Elsewhere the analytics start on the first page. Pressing Decline is honoured everywhere, and it removes the anonymous id as well as stopping the recording. SECURITY. Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Your CV sits in private storage that the public web cannot reach. The equal-opportunity answers are encrypted with a key that is not in the database. Our own rules inside the database are written so that one account can only ever read its own rows. WHERE YOUR DATA IS. In the United States. The machine we rent holds the database and your files, and it is in the United States, as are several of the companies listed in section 6. If you are in Europe, your information is handled outside Europe. CHILDREN. LikeRemote is for people looking for work and is not meant for anybody under 16. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child. If you think we have, write to us and we will delete it.
11. The LikeRemote browser extension
Our browser extension fills in job application forms for you, from the profile on your LikeRemote account. It works only while your browser is signed in to likeremote.com. WHAT IT READS. The application form and the job page you are using it on, so that it knows what to fill. It does this only on the job sites named in its permissions, or on a site you switched on yourself. WHAT IT SENDS US. Only what the service needs: the applications you make, and whether they worked, so that they appear in your history; a record of each page where it tried to fill a form — the page's address, the time and the outcome — so that we can see which forms it fails on. Never what was typed into the form; the companies you block or hide, so that this holds on every device; the questions it could not answer, so that we can teach it to. The question only, never your answer; a rating or a problem report about the page you were on, only when you choose to send one. A problem report also includes your recent applications and the answers in them, and the extension shows you this before you press Send. It does not collect your general browsing history. The only page addresses we receive from it are those of the job and application pages described above. WHAT STAYS ON YOUR OWN COMPUTER. A copy of your profile and CV, so that a form can be filled without waiting for us, and any password a job site makes you create. None of it is sent to us. Removing the extension removes it. WHO ELSE GETS IT. What goes into an application goes to that employer, and to the job site it uses, when the application is sent. From then on it is under their own privacy rules. WHO READS IT. We look at these records counted across everybody, to see where the extension fails, not to follow any one person. A problem report you send is read by us, and we look at an individual record only where we have to in order to stop abuse or because the law requires it. We do not sell any of this, to anybody, ever. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to decide whether anybody gets credit or a loan. The use of information received through the LikeRemote browser extension will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
12. Deleting your account, and what we keep
You can have your account deleted at any time. Ask us at the address in section 14. There is no charge and we do not ask why. When it runs: your CV is removed from storage immediately, and your equal-opportunity answers are erased immediately — there is no way for us to get either of them back. Your account cannot be signed into from that moment. We finish erasing everything else 30 days later. Backups can hold a copy for the same 30 days, and no longer. Your application history stays, with your name and account removed from it — it becomes a record about the jobs, attached to nobody. The same is true of any job you reported to us and any feedback you sent. INVOICES ARE THE ONE EXCEPTION AND WE CANNOT DELETE THEM. Where you have paid us, Stripe holds the invoices for that money, and tax law requires them to be kept. We also delete things you have not asked us to: records of the pages where our extension tried to fill a form, and of the questions it could not answer, are deleted after 30 days; records of individual applies after 90 days; and the CV of an account that never confirmed its email address after 7 days. If an account goes 24 months without a sign-in we write to the address on it, and if there is still no sign-in 30 days after that we delete the CV and everything read from it.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We post any change to this privacy policy on this page and, if the change is significant, we tell you about it somewhere you cannot miss it. This version was written on 11 September 2026.
