LOCATION:  760 Westchester Ave, Rye Brook, NY 10573

HOURS: 9:00am-5:30pm; Monday to Friday

FULL TIME:  Benefits Eligible

HOURLY RATE: $35.00-$50.00/hr

Process all specimens for FISH testing from accessioning through interpretation. Prepare reagents, buffers and probes according to FDA guidelines. Work up diagnostic medical report including image documentation.  Complete QA and QC documentation on a daily basis.

In this role, you will:

  • Ability to process FISH tests including reconciliation, accessioning, data entry, preparation and staining.

  • Monitor working reagents, buffers, solutions and probes.

  • Analyze FISH tests using both manual and automated procedures.

  • Proper documentation and record keeping of manual score sheets.

  • Work up diagnostic medical reports.

  • Monitor specimen adequacy and staining quality.

  • Trouble-shoot suboptimal processing technique.

  • Documentation of specimen integrity, specimen processing and all maintenance logs when necessary.

  • Knowledgeable of all policies and procedures for all relative testing events.

  • Answer the phones and correspond to the needs of client, laboratory and pathologist.

  • Additional tasks/projects upon request.

Performance Measurements

  • Ability to process and interpret a minimum of 10-15 cases in an 8-hour shift.

  • <1% overall interpretation errors.

  • Accurate and complete QC and QA documentation.

  • Ability to trouble-shoot suboptimal processing and interpretive results.

All you need is:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in Biology/Molecular/Genetics. 

  • New York State License. 

  • Minimum 1 year of FISH/Cytogenetic experience (processing and analysis).

  • Working knowledge of computers (Word and Excel).

  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English.

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Cooperative working relationship with peers and management; dependable, flexible and adaptable in all aspects of work;

  • Ability to operate staining, cover slipping and centrifuge equipment.

  • Extended periods of standing and sitting.

Bonus points if you’ve got:

  • Three plus years FISH experience (processing and analysis) for HER2, UroVysion and Hematology/Oncology specimens.

  • ASCP certified or eligible.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and see clearly 20 feet or more.

  • Work environment:  Work space is well lighted, temperature controlled work area.  Work area may be cramped in size at times.  Interruptions and changes in priorities are apt to occur and employee must be able to work effectively, efficiently and cheerfully under these conditions. The noise level in the work area environment is usually moderately quiet.
