Ryan Companies US, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for a Regional Safety Manager to join either our Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, Iowa office.

TheprimaryfunctionoftheRegionalSafety Manageristolead,manage,andcontinuouslyimprovethesafety program for Ryan Companies' Northern Division.ThisroleensuresallprojectscomplywithregulatoryrequirementsandRyan Companies safety standards while supporting operations leadership, mentoring safety staff, and driving consistent implementation of company safety initiatives across the region. There will be frequent weekday travel to construction sites but overnight travel is not expected more than one or two nights every week or two.

Some things you can expect to do:

SafetyLeadership

  • Lead the region and support the division in implementing short- and long-term safety objectives aligned with companystrategy.

  • Clearly communicate the company safety vision throughcommon goals, trust, accountability, and collaboration.

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the safety status of all regionalprojects.

  • Frequently visit project sites to verify implementation of company policies andprocedures.

  • Actively collaborate with regional operations leadership and office leadershipteams.

  • Review safety trends, metrics, and leading indicators and provide actionablerecommendations.

  • Lead communicationwith RegionalField Coordinators and Directors of Constructionregardingproject safetyperformance.

  • Seek,recommend,andimplementinnovativepracticestoachievebest-in-classsafetyperformance.

SafetyTraining

  • Communicatebestpracticesandlessonslearnedacrosstheregion.

  • Leadandfacilitatetrainingsessionsonrelevantsafetytopics.

  • Develop and maintain high-quality safety trainingcontent.

  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from employees to improve trainingeffectiveness.

  • Participate in company-wide and regional traininginitiatives.

SafetyManagement

  • EnsureOSHAandCal/OSHA (if applicable)recordkeepingrequirementsaremaintainedfortheregion.

  • Conduct effective regional-level safetymeetings.

  • Conduct and oversee project-level safety meetings andaudits.

  • Actively mentor jobsite teams on hazard recognition andmitigation.

  • LeadPreconstructionKick-OffMeetingsrelatedtosafetyandriskplanning.

  • ParticipateinProjectSafetyCommitteeandCompanySafetyCommitteemeetings.

  • Lead regional project site walks to identify and correcthazards.

Department Management

  • Assist with development and execution of the regional & divisional safety departmentstrategy.

  • Implementannual departmentalgoals andinitiatives.

  • Ensure standardized rollout of new or updated safety programs andprocesses.

  • Leadandsuperviseregionalsafetystaff.

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure consistent application of safetyprograms.

  • Support employee development, including mentoring, training, and performancereviews.

  • Assist with development and management of the regional safetybudget.

RiskManagement&Compliance

  • Lead incident investigations and ensure thorough reporting and correctiveactions.

  • Participateinclaimmanagement,OSHAresponses,andinsurancecarrierreviews.

  • Oversee safety documentation collection, review, andcompliance.

  • EnsurepropermanagementofJobHazardAnalyses,permits,andrequiredsignage.

  • Lead or oversee safety audits andinspections.

  • Ensure the safety manual and procedures remain current withregulations.

Pre-Qualification &Preconstruction

  • Participateinsubcontractorpre-qualificationandsafetyevaluations.

  • Support preconstruction teams with safety planning and sitewalks.

  • Ensurecompliancewithclient-specificsafetyrequirementsandthird-partyplatforms.

  • Coordinate and overseerequired Cal/OSHApermits. (if applicable)

Networking

  • Participateinindustrysafetyorganizationsandcommittees.

  • Attend safety conferences and networkingevents.

  • Develop strong relationships with internal leadership and strategic tradepartners.

  • Establish proactive relationships with local OSHA offices and regulatoryagencies.

Some things we expect you should have:

  • 5 or more years of experience in the implementation and management of safety program specific to commercial construction projects

  • Ability to work independently and productively with others.

  • Assist in incident investigations including near misses, injuries, property damage, and those impacting the public.

  • Individuals must possess a good working understanding of OSHA, NFPA 70E and LOTO requirements related to the construction industry.

  • Good oral communication – effectively relates to individuals or group situations.

  • Good written skills – able to express ideas and clearly communicate ideas.

  • Ability to utilize construction technology systems and multiple computer software platforms.

  • Demonstrates leadership – effective in leading group or individual toward completion of tasks.

  • Initiative – must be a self-starter and complete tasks with little supervision, take a pro-active approach and develop new and innovative solutions.

  • OSHA 30-hour construction certificate.

  • Four-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or related field or minimum 5-15 years of relevant project field experience in construction safety with an expectation to earn a degree that supports the growth of the department and positionpreferred.

  • Current first-aid, CPR and AED training from a nationally recognized organization

  • CSP, CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST board certified credential is a plus.

  • Engage with local OSHA offices to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Participate in industry safety trade organizations and conferences

  • Ability to travel to project locations, expected to be no more than 20% weekday travel

  • Bilingual Spanish isplus.

Compensation:

The salary range is $120,000 - $140,000. The salary base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.
