Associate Cybersecurity Engineer

Position Overview:
TheAssociate Cybersecurity Engineer will support the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of security controls that protect Dutch Bros systems, data, and people. The role will involve supporting security tooling such as SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and identity and access management; assisting with vulnerability scanning and remediation tracking; monitoring and triaging security alerts and escalating potential incidents; and partnering with IT and engineering teams to apply secure configurations and remediate risks. 

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent hands-on experience preferred. 

• 0-1+ years experience in a cybersecurity, IT, systems, or network role, including internships or lab/home-lab experience. 

• Working knowledge of core security concepts: the CIA triad, common attack techniques, defense in depth, and least privilege. 

• Exposure to security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, email security, or identity and access management platforms preferred. 

• Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is a plus. 

• Familiarity with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to reduce manual security work is a plus. 

• Good communication skills; ability to explain security risks and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences. 

• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, ability to multitask, and think critically. 

• Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, SSCP, or cloud security fundamentals are a plus or willingness to obtain. 

Location Requirement: 
This role is located in Tempe, Arizona. This position is required to be in office 4 days per week (Mon-Thurs); Fridays are optional remote work days.

Key Result Areas (KRAs):

• Support the deployment, configuration, and day-to-day health of security tooling, including SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and identity and access management. 
• Monitor and triage security alerts, perform initial investigation, document findings, and escalate potential incidents to senior engineers. 

• Assist with vulnerability scanning, track remediation with system owners, and help verify that fixes are applied and effective. 

• Partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to apply secure configurations, support access reviews, and remediate identified risks. 

• Support security awareness efforts and promote adoption of secure practices across the organization, under the guidance of senior team members. 

• Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices to continually improve your approach. 

• Participate in knowledge sharing, tabletop exercises, and training sessions to build your technical competency in security tooling and incident response. 

• Must be able to collaborate in-person with occasional impromptu in-person meetings

Physical Requirements:

• In-Office Environment: Must be able to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions
• Must be able to collaborate in-person with occasional impromptu in-person meetings 
• Office Conditions: Adaptability to typical office conditions, which may include exposure to air conditioning, heating, artificial lighting, and varying noise levels
• Mobility: Ability to sit, stand, reach, twist, stretch, and work at a desk for long stretches.  Must be able to occasionally move or lift office items up to 25 pounds
• Hearing Requirements: Hearing must be sufficient or correctable to ensure clear understanding of spoken information, including participating in virtual meetings and phone calls. Use of hearing aids or other assistive devices is acceptable if needed.
• Reading and Writing Proficiency: Ability to read and write in English is essential for processing documents, drafting reports, and following up on necessary actions. Proficiency in written communication is required to handle job-related tasks effectively.
• Vision Requirements: Vision must be adequate or correctable to perform essential job duties, such as reading documents on a computer screen and using other visual tools. Use of corrective lenses or other measures to meet visual requirements is expected if needed.
• Technology Proficiency: Must be proficient in operating a computer and other office productivity tools such as printers, scanners, and collaboration software. 
• Effective Communication: Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, and other stakeholders via email, video conferencing, and other in office communication tools.
