ENGINEERING TEAM AND PROCESSES Our engineering team operates on two week cycles. Each cycle begins with a meeting to discuss time estimates for features. We have demo and drinks each week on Friday where everyone showcases the work they have completed. Engineers work with Designers and if the feature involves multiple Engineers then a PM is involved to handle the coordination too. We use standard PR model with Git (BitBucket). JIRA is used for bug tracking. All engineers are empowered to take their features to production, which we do multiple times a week. TECHNICAL CHALLENGES We are buidling a product which is used in 120 countries by millions of users. Scale and performance is something which we need to very deeply care. We are also using machine learning that needs to learn a lot of things related to weddings around the world. PROJECTS YOU MIGHT WORK ON Messaging and Communication hub which allows hundreds of thousands of users to communicate with each other on daily basis iOS and Android apps which will help plan a wedding from engagement to honeymoon Guest management, invitation and RSVP systems. Think of this as replacing excel sheet, physical invitation cards and things like survey monkey or google forms.

The role

Joy is growing, and we’re looking for talented engineering leaders. In this role, you will build and lead a team of engineers. Your team will be entrusted to implement features of all sizes. You will partner closely with our product and CX teams to understand our customers, then collaborate with other frontend, back-end, and mobile engineers to build high-scale microservices APIs that power beautiful user experiences. You will guide your team members and mentor them and you use your collective extensive knowledge of backend systems to improve Joy API, a complex system which backs our client applications used and loved by millions. You'll make sure that the team engineers for correctness, maintainability, and performance while delighting couples and guests by making their working lives simpler, more pleasant, and more productive. You will hire and grow engineers on your team to be independent and proficient at their jobs. Your team will embody teamwork and a shared purpose, and make Joy a great place to work. * Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical knowledge * 3+ years of leading an engineering team * Proven track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineering talent. * High degree of familiarity with Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript * Have demonstrated experience in building secure, high-performing REST or GraphQL APIs * Set and hold a high bar for quality. * Has a great understanding of SQL and NoSQL worlds. We use both Firebase as well as PostgreSQL. * Great at debugging complex applications * Previous startup experience preferred
