Director of Engineering

Meta is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to join our Central Integrity team which exists to keep billions of people safe on Meta's platforms. We design and deploy systems that detect and disrupt harm at an unprecedented global scale, making this one of the largest deployments of AI for positive real-world impact anywhere in the industry. Our work safeguards critical areas including child and youth safety, fraud and scams, identity and authenticity and more while actively building defenses against novel frontier threats, such as autonomous AI agents and automated risk vectors. This represents some of the most technically demanding and high-stakes engineering and product at Meta, driven by a deeply mission-focused team. You'll combine strong engineering fundamentals with cutting-edge AI to build effective, adaptable solutions that stay ahead of evolving integrity and safety risks. Responsibilities

• Build, manage, and support varied teams of ML engineers and engineering managers
• Define and execute engineering strategy and multi-team roadmaps that balance technical investment, emerging capabilities, and business priorities
• Build and scale engineering organizations by attracting, developing, and retaining engineers and engineering managers across multiple teams
• Establish team structures and operating models that maximize impact while minimizing organizational complexity and execution overhead
• Partner with product, design, and data science counterparts to drive shared accountability for outcomes across the full product development lifecycle
• Proactively identify and resolve the largest cross-functional execution risks, including vision gaps, dependency conflicts, and organizational blockers
• Develop a leadership bench through both external hiring and internal growth
• Champion engineering craft and quality standards across teams, fostering a self-reinforcing culture of continuous improvement
• Monitor and act on organizational health signals to maintain high engagement, low attrition, and effective team dynamics across reporting lines
• Contribute to company-wide engineering initiatives including recruiting pipelines, cross-functional working groups, and site-level programs
• Ensure teams operate in alignment with Meta's values, compliance obligations, and ethical standards, serving as an escalation point for concerns

Minimum qualifications

• 10+ years of technical industry experience in software engineering
• 7+ years of engineering management experience, including managing other engineering managers
• Demonstrated experience in delivering large scale impact leveraging Machine Learning and partnering with cross-functional partners
• Track record of building and scaling engineering organizations across multiple teams or product areas
• Experience in establishing engineering strategy and roadmaps that span multiple teams and cross-functional partners
• Experience diagnosing and resolving complex organizational health challenges, including retention, team structure, and leadership development Expertise in managing Machine Learning Engineers and partnering with Technical Leads to drive modeling strategy and its execution
• Experience managing engineering portfolios at different lifecycle stages, from early-stage development through scaled production systems
• Experience driving engineering efficiency improvements that benefit teams beyond direct reporting lines
• Track record of building engineering leadership pipelines through both external hiring and internal development
