You will be our in-region technical lead for the Robotics Visor. You will spend a significant share of your time onsite at the suppliers, driving development, integration, and qualification hands-on: running builds and DOEs, standing up metrology at the line, root-causing failures with the vendor's engineers, and closing the loop back to the US design and program teams.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical DRI for the Robotics Visor at supplier sites in the region, with the authority and accountability to make and defend day-to-day technical calls onsite
- Own the development and qualification at the visor supplier: build readiness, DOE execution, tooling and line qualification, and MP ramp readiness
- Establish the end-to-end manufacturing process of Visor. Drive DFM on substrate forming, dry and wet coatings, decoration and masking, surface finish and post processing guiding the process that holds performance at volume
- Establish the metrology capability to support all of the above: measurement methods, sampling plans, gauge R&R, and correlation from component-level measurement to integrated-assembly and system-level performance
- Own the optical consequences of display-to-visor integration, display legibility and optical sensor performance through the visor
Minimum qualifications
- BS in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including full ownership of an optical component or assembly from requirements through mass production ramp
- Demonstrated experience as the senior in-region technical owner at supplier sites, driving development and qualification onsite
- Hands-on experience with optical bonding or lamination of a display or optical element to a cover window or substrate
- Working knowledge of optical coating design and coating processes, including PVD, hard coating, etc
- Hands-on optical metrology and statistical methods (GRR, Cpk)
- Track record of root-causing optical, cosmetic, and reliability failures to a verified mechanism and a deployed fix
- Fluent written and spoken Mandarin and English, and a demonstrated ability to operate as the bridge between a China-based supply chain and a US-based design and program team
- Willingness to travel to supplier sites regularly Experience with optical polymer and glass substrates, molding, forming or thermoforming
- MS/PhD in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
- Direct experience with cover glass, window, or visor development for a consumer, automotive, or robotics product
- Experience specifying or qualifying optical windows in front of cameras, depth sensors, or other perception hardware
- Reliability and environmental qualification experience (impact, abrasion, chemical, UV, thermal cycling, humidity)
