Responsibilities
- Robot repair and maintenance: Diagnose and repair commercial robots following established repair protocols; perform routine preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Hardware fabrication: Operate 3D printing software (e.g., slicer tools, CAD viewers) to produce replacement and custom parts; assemble printed components into functional subassemblies.
- Data collection support: Partner with data collection operators to swap out broken components quickly, keep devices charged and staged, and triage hardware issues that surface mid-session.
- Inventory and documentation: Track spare parts, consumables, and printed components; log repairs and failure modes to help identify recurring issues.
- Workspace upkeep: Maintain a safe, organized hardware lab and charging area.
Minimum qualifications
- Hands-on experience repairing consumer/commercial robots, drones, or comparable electromechanical devices
- Solid understanding of robot mechanical structure, actuation, and basic electronics (motors, sensors, batteries, wiring)
- Proficiency with 3D printing workflows: preparing models in slicer software, running FDM/SLA printers, and post-processing prints
- Comfortable assembling parts with hand tools, fasteners, and adhesives and able to follow mechanical drawings or assembly instructions Familiarity with CAD tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape) for minor part modifications
- Soldering and machining skills
- Prior experience supporting a robotics research lab or data collection operation
- Comfort with light scripting or running diagnostic tools on robot firmware/SDKs
- Undergraduate / MS degree in robotics
