Dotmatics is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our team. We are building the most powerful R&D AI-Powered platform in the world. Luma is an AI-Native Multimodal Research Platform for Scientific Intelligence – it fits the way our customers "do science," letting them streamline research with adaptive R&D workflows driven by AI and seamless data integration.

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer within ourLab Connect team, you'll build software that connects laboratory environments, applications and scientific workflows. This is a hands-on engineering role focused ondesktop and connected systems, where reliability, process orchestration and asynchronous communication are critical.

You'll work acrossNode.js and React, building applications that operate acrossWindows, Linux and macOS, while solving complex problems around inter-process communication, parallelisation, process orchestration and streams processing. You'll help build the software that enables scientists to connect their laboratory environments and instruments with modern R&D workflows.

We're looking for engineers who are comfortable working close to the operating system and understand the challenges of building reliable software across multiple environments. Experience withindustrial, laboratory, instrumentation, automation or other connected-device environments is particularly valuable.

This is no ordinary engineering role. This is a product with real-world meaning, helping scientists work more effectively and enabling the research that brings new medicines and discoveries to life.

In this role you will:

• Lead development of complex, high-impact features fordesktop and connected laboratory applications
• Design and build software that operates reliably acrossWindows, Linux and macOS
• Develop asynchronous, non-blocking services and applications usingNode.js
• Design solutions involvinginter-process communication, parallelisation and process orchestration
• Build and maintainstreams-based processing and data flows for high-volume or continuously generated data
• Develop React-based frontend experiences that provide intuitive interfaces for complex scientific workflows
• Work with engineers across the platform to integrate desktop applications with backend services and distributed systems
• Investigate and resolve complex issues involving processes, concurrency, performance and communication between components
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code, proactively identifying technical debt and opportunities for architectural improvement
• Provide technical guidance through thoughtful code reviews and pair programming, fostering a culture of continuous learning
• Support the reliability of our applications by contributing to deployment, monitoring and production support

We are looking for candidates with:

• Strong fluency in English – written and spoken
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience buildingdesktop applications or software that interacts closely with the operating system
• Commercial experience developing acrossmultiple operating systems, particularly Windows, Linux and/or macOS
• A strong understanding ofasynchronous programming, concurrency and inter-process communication
• Experience withprocess orchestration and parallelisation
• You're curious and inquisitive – someone who questions the why and the how and enjoys solving complex technical problems

The key skills:

• Strong commercial experience withNode.js
• Strong experience withReact and modern frontend development
• Experience buildingdesktop or cross-platform applications
• Experience working acrossWindows, Linux and macOS
• Strong understanding ofstreams processing and asynchronous programming
• Experience withinter-process communication and process orchestration
• Experience designing systems involvingparallel processing and concurrent workloads
• Solid experience designing, building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Experience working with distributed systems and service-based architectures
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
• Experience with Docker and/or other approaches to application packaging and deployment
• A strong advocate for automated testing (unit, integration, E2E) and CI/CD

You may also have experience in:

• Industrial IoT (IIoT), laboratory automation, scientific instrumentation or connected-device environments
• Building software that communicates with or controlsphysical devices, instruments or equipment
• Developing applications that run reliably inindustrial, laboratory or other high-integrity environments
• Device communication protocols, hardware interfaces or machine-to-machine communication
• Building and scaling complex data ingestion or processing workflows
• Event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka
• AWS or other cloud platforms
• Kubernetes and containerisation
• Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code technologies
• Working with applications that need to operate reliably in environments with intermittent connectivity or constrained resources
• Leading small project teams or acting as a feature lead, including mentoring engineers and running code reviews
• Background in Life Sciences, R&D or scientific data management
