[팀 소개]

Merchant Engineering 팀은 한국 쿠팡이츠뿐만 아니라 글로벌 서비스(일반 로켓나우 등) 전반에 걸친 엔드투엔드(End-to-End) 상점주 여정(Merchant Journey)을 구축하고 혁신합니다. 우리는 상점주에게 필요한 시스템을 제공하여 지역 상점주들이 온라인 배달 모델에 쉽게 적응하고 성공적인 온라인 비즈니스를 운영할 수 있도록 지원합니다.

본 직무는 쿠팡 본사(Coupang Corp.) 소속 채용 건입니다.

주요 업무 (Key Responsibilities)

• 상점주 기술 전략 수립 및 실행: 한국 및 글로벌 상점주 플랫폼의 제품, 운영, 규제 요구사항을 실행 가능한 기술 로드맵으로 전환하고 이행을 주도합니다.

• 핵심 상점주 도메인 관리: 매장 입점, 메뉴/가격 관리, 주문 수락/상태 관리, 정산/매출 분석을 포함한 상점주 도메인 전반의 소프트웨어 개발 생애주기(설계, 개발, 테스트, 배포, 운영)를 총괄합니다.

• 아키텍처 리더십 및 시스템 안정성: 주요 기술 결정을 주도하고, 대규모 상점주 데이터를 안정적으로 처리할 수 있는 고가용성·고성능 백엔드 아키텍처를 설계합니다.

• 엔지니어링 우수성(Engineering Excellence): 코드 품질, 성능, 보안 기준을 수립하고 인시던트 관리, 온콜(On-call) 로테이션, 포스트모템(Post-mortem) 프로세스의 지속적인 개선을 이끕니다.

• 프로젝트 및 리소스 관리: 병렬로 진행되는 여러 프로젝트의 일정, 리소스, 리스크, 우선순위를 관리합니다.

• 팀 리더십 및 인재 육성: 백엔드 엔지니어의 채용, 코칭, 평가 및 커리어 성장을 지원하여 고성능 엔지니어링 조직을 구축합니다.

• 크로스 파트너십/협업: 프로덕트, 운영, 법무 및 글로벌 팀과 긴밀히 협력하여 요구사항을 조율하고 최선의 의사결정을 내립니다.

• 프로세스 및 생산성 혁신: AI 기반 환경을 포함한 현대적 개발 방식 도입을 통해 팀의 엔지니어링 생산성과 시스템 운영 워크플로우를 구조적으로 개선합니다.

자격 요건 (Minimum Qualifications)

• 8년 이상의 백엔드 개발 경험 및 백엔드 엔지니어링 매니저 또는 테크 리드(Tech Lead)로서 입증된 리더십 경험

• 고트래픽 환경에서 대용량 분산 시스템 설계 및 마이크로서비스 아키텍처(MSA) 운영 경험 (성능, 안정성, 데이터 정합성, 보안 고려 필수)

• 복잡한 비즈니스 도메인(예: 매장, 정산, 상품/메뉴 관리 등)의 오너십을 갖고 시스템을 지속적으로 개선해 본 경험

• 운영 인시던트 대응, 모니터링 프레임워크 구축, 온콜 로테이션 관리를 포함한 서비스 SLA 유지 경험

• 복잡한 비즈니스 문제를 명확한 기술적 솔루션으로 전환할 수 있는 뛰어난 문제 해결 능력

• 글로벌 이해관계자 및 해외 엔지니어링 팀과의 원활한 협업을 위한 비즈니스 수준의 영어 소통 능력

Team Description 

The Merchant Engineering team is responsible for building and innovating the end-to-end Merchant Journey for Coupang Eats in Korea as well as global services (such as Rocket Now in Japan). We empower merchants and help potential local merchants to adapt to the online delivery model and support them to run successful online businesses. 

Our team owns the core platform that enables hundreds of thousands of merchants to run their businesses smoothly—from onboarding and menu management to order processing, settlements, and sales analytics. Our team owns the key systems for the entrusted data from merchants and our customers rely on accurate store and menu information to choose the best to their needs. In an expanding global business and fast-changing commerce environment, we work closely with key business stakeholders to deliver the best possible merchant experience.  

We are looking for a leader who can demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills and grow within this dynamic environment. 

This position is employed under Coupang Corp. (Headquarters). 

Key Responsibilities 

• Merchant Technical Strategy & Execution: Translate product, operational, and regulatory requirements across Korea and global merchant platforms into an actionable technical roadmap and drive execution. 

• Core Merchant Domain Management: Oversee the full software development lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment, and operations) across the merchant domain, including store onboarding, menu/pricing management, order acceptance/status management, and settlement/sales analytics. 

• Architecture Leadership & System Stability: Lead key technical decisions and design high-availability, high-performance backend architectures capable of handling merchant data. 

• Engineering Excellence: Establish standards for code quality, performance, and security. Drive continuous improvement in incident management, on-call rotations, and post-mortem processes. 

• Project & Resource Management: Manage schedules, resources, risks, and task priorities across multiple parallel projects. 

• Team Leadership & Talent Development: Build a high-performing engineering organization by recruiting, coaching, evaluating, and supporting the career growth of backend engineers. 

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Operations, Legal, and global teams to align on requirements and make optimal trade-off decisions. 

• Process & Productivity Innovation: Structurally improve team engineering productivity and system operational workflows by adopting modern development practices, including AI-driven environments. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• 8+ years of backend development experience, with proven leadership experience as a Backend Engineering Manager or Tech Lead. 

• Proven track record of designing distributed systems and operating Microservice Architectures (MSA) in high-traffic environments, with strong consideration for performance, stability, data consistency, and security. 

• Experience taking ownership of complex business domains (e.g., stores, settlements, product/menu management) and driving continuous system improvements. 

• Experience maintaining service SLAs, including production incident response, building monitoring frameworks, and managing on-call rotations. 

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business problems into clear technical solutions. 

• Professional English communication skills for seamless collaboration with global stakeholders and international engineering teams. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Extensive experience developing and operating large-scale services using Java and the Spring Framework. 

• Experience operating multi-country services, accommodating country-specific settlement/tax regulations, and leading localization efforts. 

• Background in building B2B SaaS, e-Commerce Merchant Platforms, Merchant Portal, or settlement/payment domains. 

• Deep experience with Event-Driven Architectures, message queues (e.g., Kafka), and JPA/RDBMS/NoSQL optimization. 

• Proven technical leadership with a strong influence across the organization and adjacent teams. 
• Track record of elevating engineering quality standards, code review cultures, and overall development processes.
