A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Designer at HansonÂ
As a Mechanical Designer, you will support the planning, design, and construction of building mechanical systems for a variety of facility projects. Working alongside engineers and project managers, you will help develop innovative and practical solutions for clients while gaining experience across multiple project types.Â
Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:Â
- Conduct facility studies, assessments, and evaluations, including:Â
- Existing system due diligence reviewsÂ
- Facility condition assessmentsÂ
- Feasibility and conceptual design studiesÂ
- Probableconstruction costsÂ
- Indoor air quality evaluationsÂ
- Utility master planningÂ
- Assist in the design of:Â
- HVAC systemsÂ
- Building automation systems and energy management systems.Â
- Plumbing systemsÂ
- Fire protection systemsÂ
- Special piping systemsÂ
- Prepare construction drawings and contract documents using Revit.Â
- Perform field investigations and document existing mechanical systems.Â
- Assist engineers with:Â
- Load calculations
- Energy modelingÂ
- EquipmentselectionÂ
- System layouts and design developmentÂ
- Support the preparation of technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.Â
- Participate in shop drawing reviews and construction administration activities.Â
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.Â
- Perform otherduties as assigned by project and department leadership.Â
What We're Looking ForÂ
Education & ExperienceÂ
- Bachelor’s degreeinmechanicalengineering from anABET-accredited institution.Â
- Minimum offour (4)years of experience designing anddrafting (modeling) mechanical building systems (including HVAC,plumbing, and fire protection).Â
- Experience with building systems commissioning is a plus.
- E.I.T. certification.Â
- PE or ability to get licensed in one (1) year a plus.Â
Technical SkillsÂ
- Proficiency withRevit.Â
- Experience with Trane Trace or similar energy modeling/load calculation softwareispreferred.Â
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, andfire protection systems.Â
- Ability to interpretconstruction documents, includingengineering drawings and specifications.Â
Professional SkillsÂ
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to engineers, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.Â
- Ability toestablish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally.Â
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technical concepts and software tools.Â
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Â
- Interest in supporting a variety of project types and technical assignments.Â
Additional RequirementsÂ
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team memberslocated in multiple office locations.Â
- Willingness to travel occasionally for project-related assignments and field investigations.Â
- Ability to workadditional hours when necessary to meet project schedules and client commitments.Â
This is an exempt position. The salary range for this role is between $95,000 – $115,000 depending on experience.
