Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities :

  • Supports the safe and effective care of patients in assigned clinic(s), assisting nurses and providers with preparationforand duringencounters with patients in accordance with all applicable regulations and requirements, promoting continuity of care by serving as a liaison between PremierHealthcare (PHC) and the patientand circles of support involved in their care.  

  • Documents allpatient-relatedactivities in the electronic medical record systemin accordance with all applicable policies and procedures, ensuring all patient and encounter information is entered accurately and completely to support necessary follow-ups and tofacilitateappropriatebilling andtimely closeouts.  

  • Maintains overall cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms and other areas of the practice site,cleaning and preparing rooms with required supplies before and afterpatientvisits andremovingfilled sharps disposal unitsor other biohazardous wastein accordance with all safety requirements.  

  • Assists with stocking and maintenance of supplyroom, escalating low inventory items to Charge LPN.  

  • Escorts patients to and from the exam rooms,assisting withmanagement ofpatient flow andprepares patientsfor visits, reviewing intake packets and other documentation, verifying consent and identity, collecting medical history and other information, including patient or family concerns or questions. 

  • Obtains vital signs, height, weight,BMI and/or waist circumference asapplicable for visit type or as requested by providerand documents all information in theelectronicmedical record, escalating pertinent clinical findings toappropriate clinician(s).  

  • Assists with examination of the patient, as directed by the clinician/nurse, which may include positioningand supporting patients or implementing restraint of patientsin accordance withdocumented treatment plans.  

  • Ensuressafety of patients and staff during encounters,assistingwith therapeutic interventionsusingapprovedtechniquesand as directed by providers or clinic leadership.  

  • Collects samples and specimens from patientsconsistent with clinician’s orders, which includes assisting with or performing phlebotomyand EKGson adult and pediatric patients in compliance withNYSDepartment of Health (DOH) andClinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines, processing and documenting laboratory requests accurately and timely.  

  • Participates in daily and weekly team meetings,huddles and grand rounds.  

  • Coordinatesprescription, form or other related requestswithproviders and applicable support staff, which may include entering or updatingelectronic medical recordsystem or relaying information toappropriate parties, as requested. 

  • Participates in quality improvement activities and escalates quality and/orcomplianceconcerns to PracticeAdministrator,supervisor or other applicable departmentsin accordance with policies and procedures or as directed by supervisor.   

  • Reports all safety and health hazards toappropriate personnelin a timely manner and responds quickly to emergency conditions,assisting as directed bysupervisor,providers or other clinic leadership.  

  • Adheres to all applicable regulations,procedures and protocols in exercise of all clinical activities, including NYS Department of Health (DOH) regulations and protocols and PHC Policy and Procedures Manual, keeping current with updates and changes through on-site training, continuingeducation and reviewing reference documents. 

  • Complies with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). 

  • Performs allother duties, as assigned, including performing duties of medicalsecretary and/or at other clinic locationsto support day-to-day operations, as requested. 

Minimum Qualification Requirementsincluding education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essentialphysical capabilities(e.g., lifting,assisting lifting, standing, etc.)  

  • Completion of a medical assisting certificate program;or 

  • High school diploma or its educational equivalentand one (1) year ofexperienceinanoutpatient clinic, doctor’s office or other healthcare environment performing medicaland/or patient support-related duties;and 

  • CurrentBasic Life Support (BLS)certification;or 

  • Satisfactory equivalent combination of education,experience and/or training; however, all incumbents must hold current BLS certification. 

  • Proficiency with computers and electronic systems,including experience usingelectronic medical record/electronic health record system (EMR/EHR) and basic knowledge ofMicrosoft Word and Outlook, along withtheability to learn to use common office equipment and various electronic systems,databases and software programs. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Strong customer service skills and professionalmanner. 

  • Basicproblem-solving skills and good judgment, including the ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions and to recognize situations that require escalation. 

  • Abilityto regularly report to assigned cliniclocationand willingness to travel to and/or provide coverage at other clinic locations across New York City, asneeded. 

  • Ability to work on Saturdays up to two (2) times per month,as needed.  

  • Ability to meet essential physical demands of position including:using hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls;regularly moving around the clinic, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching with hands and arms; assisting with moving/positioning individuals of any weight in or between treatment roomsand lifting and/or movingsupplies orboxes weighing up to25 pounds at assigned location, as needed.

Preferred Qualification Requirements(desired requirements beyond MQRs above) 

  • National certification as a Medical Assistant issued by the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or NationalHealthCareerAssociation (CCMA)  

  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) 

  • Verbal and/or written fluency in a second language, Spanish highly preferred 

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm

Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
