This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood Mountain & Lake Club, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California.

Homewood is seeking a Steward to join the Culinary Department.

Job Summary:

The Steward is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygienic state of all kitchens and into general back-of-house areas. Support in kitchen setup, servicing and breakdown for events across the business is also a key part of this role. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Keeps all food preparation areas meticulously clean and tidy. Maintains safe and sanitary conditions in all food service areas and for all food service equipment.
  • Provides courteous and professional service as well as proper care, movement, storage of all kitchen related equipment.
  • Demonstrates full working COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) knowledge and adheres to all safety measures in the use of any cleaning materials required to operate.
  • Ensures all kitchens are well maintained and cleaned prior to and/or after each daily operation including swift and hygienic garbage removal controls. Also assists with inventory control of catering equipment and plateware.
  • Demonstrates full knowledge of cleaning products and keep these areas properly stocked and cleaned.
  • Controls any linen usage across kitchens, removing soiled items for laundry and refreshing stocks with new inventory as needed.
  • Assists culinary staff when needed and performs side work and other cleaning and organizing as required.
  • Communicates with supervisor verbally and through written communication throughout the shift to ensure proper notification and follow through of assigned tasks.
  • Provides prompt, courteous service to culinary and F&B team members while maintaining a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Prior culinary experience preferred.
  • Culinary Degree/Certification(s) preferred.
  • Understand and abide by all federal, state, and local food safety and sanitation regulations, including state required food handler certificates.

  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and desire to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

The Company’s good faith estimate of the hourly rate it expects to pay for this role is $22-$23 and is based on applicable and specialized experience and location.
