TheVP, Reinsurance will lead the development and execution of reinsurance strategies, working closely with executive leadership and global teams. This role will drive portfolio optimization, treaty structuring, and high-level relationship management with reinsurers, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
Reporting to the EVP Chief Underwriting Officer, this position plays a critical role in aligning reinsurance strategy with business growth objectives across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Reinsurance Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and executetreaty-level reinsurance strategies aligned with business goals
- Partner with senior leadership to supportportfolio growth and optimization
- Collaborate with Group Reinsurance and analytics teams for decision-making
- Design reinsurance structures, including:
- Scope of cover
- Contract wording
- Submission strategy
- Lead negotiations with reinsurers and finalize contract agreements
- Ensure treaty premium planning and performance analysis
- Ensure compliance withOSFI reinsurance guidelines and Zurich Risk Policy
- Oversee contract compliance and regulatory documentation
- Coordinate internal approvals including legal and compliance sign-offs
- Validate exposure data and ensure data integrity for pricing models
- Coordinate internal pricing models and risk transfer validation
- Support benchmarking and actuarial collaboration
- Build and manage relationships with:
- Reinsurers
- Brokers
- Portfolio Managers
- Internal business units
- Act as astrategic business partner at executive level
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in Reinsurance underwriting or brokerage
- Strong knowledge ofOSFI regulations and reinsurance practices
- Proven experience intreaty structuring and negotiations
- Strong communication skills with ability to engage senior leadership
- MBA or Postgraduate Degree
- Advanced knowledge of reinsurance contracts and pricing
- Strong analytics and strategic thinking skills
- Experience in business partnering and cross-functional leadership
- Bilingual (English & French) – Strong asset
