The Vice President, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) serves as the senior executive responsible for establishing and leading the environmental health and safety vision, strategy, governance, and performance for ATS and providing strategic EHS leadership and support across ATS operations. This role partners with executive leadership to advance a world-class culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence; ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and Canadian health, safety, and environmental regulations; manage enterprise risk; and drive continuous improvement across a diverse portfolio of laboratories, industrial operations, and field service environments. The Vice President, Environmental Health & Safety aligns EHS objectives with business strategy while protecting employees, clients, contractors, communities, company assets, and the environment, and supporting organizational growth, acquisitions, and operational excellence. The role also provides executive oversight of environmental compliance programs, regulatory permitting requirements, and environmental risk management activities to ensure sustainable operations and adherence to applicable regulatory obligations across North America.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute enterprise environmental, health, and safety (EHS) strategies, initiatives, and objectives that support ATS business goals.
  • Serve as the senior EHS leader and trusted advisor to executive leadership on all environmental, health, safety, compliance, and operational risk matters.
  • Promote and sustain a culture of safety excellence, environmental stewardship, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with ATS leadership to establish EHS priorities, performance expectations, and organizational accountability.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and governance of EHS policies, standards, management systems, and procedures across ATS operations.
  • Establish and maintain consistent EHS programs, reporting methodologies, performance metrics, and compliance expectations across supported business units.
  • Oversee enterprise risk management activities related to occupational health and safety, environmental compliance, operational hazards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of environmental, health, and safety risks across laboratories, corporate offices, industrial operations, and field service environments.
  • Establish EHS performance metrics, dashboards, and executive reporting processes that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Lead significant safety and environmental incident investigations and ensure effective root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and organizational learning.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable U.S., Canadian, provincial, state, local, and industry-specific environmental, health, and safety regulations, standards, permits, and best practices.
  • Provide executive oversight of environmental compliance programs, regulatory reporting obligations, permitting requirements, and related governance processes.
  • Partner with business leaders to promote consistent EHS governance, standards, and performance expectations across U.S. and Canadian operations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and emerging environmental, health, and safety requirements across North America and ensure organizational readiness and compliance.
  • Oversee contractor, vendor, and third-party EHS management programs and ensure alignment with organizational expectations.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to support acquisitions, integrations, organizational growth initiatives, and EHS due diligence activities.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, clients, auditors, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead organizational preparation for regulatory audits, inspections, investigations, and agency inquiries involving environmental, health, and safety matters, and ensure effective remediation of identified findings and compliance gaps.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure appropriate management of environmental permits, licenses, certifications, and regulatory obligations across the organization.
  • Lead enterprise emergency preparedness, crisis management, and business continuity initiatives related to employee safety, environmental incidents, and operational risk.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices and implement improvements that strengthen organizational performance and risk management outcomes.
  • Build, develop, and lead high-performing EHS teams while supporting leadership development and succession planning.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, resources, technology investments, and external service providers.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level presentations, recommendations, and performance updates to senior leadership.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive environmental, health, and safety leadership experience, including responsibility for multi-site and geographically dispersed operations.
  • Proven success developing and leading enterprise EHS programs within complex operational environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, risk management principles, EHS management systems, and regulatory compliance requirements, including experience navigating multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments.
  • Experience leading environmental compliance programs, regulatory permitting activities, and enterprise risk management initiatives across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with regulatory agencies and managing inspections, audits, investigations, and compliance-related initiatives.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership to establish strategic objectives and drive organizational performance.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and business growth initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and stakeholders across diverse business functions and organizational levels.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align EHS strategies with operational and financial objectives.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Experience utilizing data, metrics, and reporting tools to drive performance improvements and organizational accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams, develop talent, and lead organizational change in complex business environments.

Additional requirements:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred.
  • Additional environmental, health, safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, or risk management certifications are preferred.
  • Experience supporting laboratory, industrial, technical services, engineering, manufacturing, construction, or field service operations preferred.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance programs, permitting requirements, and regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies, auditors, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive business matters with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.

Work Conditions:

  • Combination of office, laboratory, industrial, manufacturing, construction, and field environments.
  • Regular interaction with executive leadership, business unit leaders, operational leaders, clients, regulatory agencies, auditors, and external stakeholders.
  • Frequent travel to company locations, operating sites, acquisition targets, and client facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Periodic exposure to laboratory, industrial, manufacturing, construction, and client-site environments requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Participation in facility audits, inspections, regulatory reviews, and compliance-related activities as needed.
  • Availability to support significant safety incidents, environmental events, emergency response activities, and critical business needs outside of normal business hours.
