The Vice President, Corporate Communications will serve as a senior communications leader responsible for shaping and advancing the company’s corporate narrative, reputation, and executive voice. This role will lead a dynamic communications strategy spanning executive communications, thought leadership, corporate storytelling, and media relations, with a focus on proactively identifying and creating opportunities to elevate the company, its leaders, businesses, and strategic priorities. 

The ideal candidate is a strategic counselor, compelling storyteller, and proactive media strategist who understands how to translate complex business strategies into clear, differentiated narratives that resonate with employees, investors, industry leaders, policymakers, and the broader public. 

This role partners closely with the EVP, Corporate Communications and communications leadership team to develop clear, consistent messaging and execute communications plans aligned to business priorities. 

Key Responsibilities 

Corporate Narrative & Storytelling 

  • Help shape externally NBCU’s overarching story, positioning and messaging. 
  • Translate complex business strategies, innovation, and company priorities into compelling stories that are accessible and differentiated. 
  • Identify the stories, milestones, people, businesses, and innovations that can strengthen the company’s reputation and bring its strategy to life. 
  • Develop integrated messaging frameworks and communications platforms that can be used consistently across external and internal audiences. 
  • Anticipate emerging issues and opportunities and proactively develop communications strategies around them. 
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure communications are aligned with the company’s business objectives and broader reputation strategy. 

Proactive Media Relations 

  • Lead a highly proactive media strategy, consistently identifying and pitching compelling company stories. 
  • Coordinate closely with business-unit communications teams to amplify major company announcements, milestones, partnerships, innovations, and strategic initiatives. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier business, technology, trade, entertainment, , and industry reporters and editors. 
  • Develop creative, differentiated story angles and pitches that position the company and its executives at the center of important conversations. 
  • Drive earned media opportunities across business, corporate, trade, broadcast, podcast, and digital platforms. 
  • Develop rapid-response strategies when appropriate while maintaining a strong emphasis on proactive reputation building. 

Executive Communications & Thought Leadership 

  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives, providing strategic counsel on positioning, messaging, visibility, and reputation. 
  • Develop executive communications strategies that establish leaders as credible, distinctive voices within the industry and broader business community. 
  • Create speeches, keynote remarks, talking points, presentations, and other executive materials. 
  • Identify opportunities for executives to participate in high-value industry conversations, conferences, interviews, panels, podcasts, and other forums. 
  • Develop proactive thought-leadership platforms and campaigns that connect executive voices to the company’s strategic priorities and broader industry trends. 
  • Prepare executives for high-profile media interviews, speaking engagements, and other external appearances. 

Integrated Communications Leadership 

  • Partner closely with internal communications, business communications, public affairs, marketing, and other functions to ensure a coordinated communications approach. 
  • Establish clear communications priorities and measurement frameworks to evaluate impact and inform strategy. 
  • Lead high-priority corporate communications initiatives and special projects from strategy through execution. 
  • Serve as a senior representative of the communications function with executives and key internal stakeholders. 
  • Help build and mentor a high-performing corporate communications team and foster a culture of strategic thinking, creativity, collaboration, and accountability. 

Basic Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, executive communications, media relations, journalism, or a related field, with significant experience advising senior executives. 

Desired Experience, Skills, and Characteristics:

  • Proven track record of developing and executing proactive corporate communications and media strategies that generate meaningful earned media. 
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to make complex business topics compelling and accessible. 
  • Deep understanding of the media landscape and established relationships with influential business, industry, and/or trade journalists. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop executive thought leadership that is authentic, differentiated, and connected to business strategy. 
  • Strong strategic judgment and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly visible environment. 
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate effectively across a large, complex organization. 
  • Experience managing sensitive or high-profile communications issues with discretion and sound judgment. 
  • Strong team leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills. 
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a demonstrated ability to find the story, create the opportunity, and move quickly to capitalize on it. 

Additional Requirements:

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum offour days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
