Volunteer - Athletics

The Basketball Coach will lead a group of children on that team during game situations.  The coach is responsible for setting up a skills session during practice times allocated by the Park District.

REPORTS TO: The Basketball Coach works under the supervision and direction of the Athletic Supervisor. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Volunteer must be committed to the team for the entire length of the season.  Must agree to submit to a background check and assume the full risk for any injuries, damage or loss resulting from volunteer services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organize and attend all the practices and games.
• Communicate league concerns from parents and players to the Athletic Supervisor.
• Pick up and be responsible for all team equipment.
• Follow all park district rules and policies as applicable.
• Be respectful of all other players, coaches, and parents in the program
• Be responsible for the behavior of your team, fans, parents and other coaches.
• Be respectful of every park district employees and game officials.
• Pass along information from park district to players, parents and other coaches.
• Return equipment in a timely manner after season.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

• Must have good communication skills with the players, parents, gym supervisors, referees and athletic supervisor.
• Experience ongoing concerns for all safety issues.
• Must have ability to deal with others under stressful situations.
• May have to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR are required.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

• Participation in the sport may be needed in practice situations.
• May need to respond to situations quickly and accurately.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

• The work/ coaching area is indoors in the gymnasium.  The temperature is controlled.
• A Basketball Coach is potentially exposed to chronic infectious diseases while      performing first aid or emergency procedures.

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

• Be knowledgeable of league rules and pass that information along to fans, parents and players.
• Must be able to organize and manage a group of 9-10 children of particular age.
