Visiting Assistant Professor of Neuroscience
Western New England University | College of Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences at Western New England University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor of Neuroscience beginning in Spring 2027. The position will support the University's interdisciplinary undergraduate Neuroscience program as its academic administration transitions to the College of Arts and Sciences. The appointment will be housed in the Department of Psychology or the Department of Physical and Biological Sciences, depending on the successful candidate's disciplinary expertise.
The position carries a 4/4 teaching load (12 instructional credits per semester), with the possibility of administrative course release for assigned responsibilities such as curriculum review and redesign, laboratory or research coordination, or other program-transition needs.
Immediate Spring 2027 teaching priorities include Sensation and Perception, Cognitive Neuroscience, Neurodevelopment, and an upper-level Neuroscience elective or special-topics course appropriate to the candidate's expertise. Future assignments may include Introduction to Behavioral Neuroscience, Research Methods in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Seminar in Neuroscience, and other upper-level courses. Exact assignments will reflect the candidate's background and program needs.
The successful candidate will also contribute to student mentoring and academic planning, including course sequencing and degree progress during the transition. The position will help coordinate undergraduate research experiences by connecting students with appropriate faculty mentors and, where appropriate, supervising research rotations, placements, independent study, or senior thesis work. Opportunities exist to collaborate across Psychology, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and related fields.
A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a closely related field is preferred. Advanced ABD candidates expecting to complete the doctorate by or near the beginning of the appointment may also be considered. Candidates should be prepared to teach across multiple areas of the undergraduate Neuroscience curriculum and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Prior college-level teaching, undergraduate research mentoring, laboratory instruction, curriculum development, or academic advising is desirable.
The anticipated annual salary range is $70,000-$80,000, subject to HR review and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their qualifications and the Neuroscience areas or courses they are prepared to teach, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, and the names and contact information of three professional references. Official transcripts of higher-education coursework will be required prior to appointment; unofficial transcripts may be submitted with the initial application.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
