Vechicle Packaging Engineer

**6 months contract - outside IR35**

THE ROLE

The Concept CAD & Vehicle Packaging (Block Leader) is responsible for managing the CAD package within a nominated vehicle zone, and developing with the package and commodity teams technical solutions that ensure a viable vehicle package adhering to prevailing engineering standards. This role combines CAD management, resolution of technical/package issues, supporting both early-phase concept development and detailed engineering.

The role also requires man management of a small team of package engineers, setting workload targets, monitoring output and reporting status to the project team.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES

· 3D CAD Modelling — Create alternative package proposals (high level)

· Vehicle Architecture Development — Manage spatial layouts for powertrain, chassis, interior, electrical, and thermal systems.

· Hardpoint Definition — Manage the master hardpoint database for the vehicle.

· Occupant Packaging — Ensure ergonomic comfort, visibility, ingress/egress, and compliance with human-factors requirements.

· Regulatory Compliance — Apply global standards (FMVSS, ECE, GTR) to packaging and design decisions.

· DMU & Virtual Builds — Lead digital mock-up reviews to validate clearances, interfaces, and serviceability.

· Cross-Functional Integration — Resolve and manage packaging conflicts across body, chassis, powertrain, interior, and electrical teams.

· Benchmarking — Analyse competitor vehicles to inform architecture and design decisions.

· Change Management — Manage CAD updates, version control, and release workflows in PLM systems.

· Block reviews and Status reporting – Mange block reviews, document key issues and develop resolution plans.

KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE

· Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6

· Experience with vehicle packaging, ergonomics, and system integration

· Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering standards, and manufacturing processes

· Familiarity with PLM systems (Teamcenter, 3DX)

· Ability to translate engineering requirements into robust CAD and packaging solutions

· Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in EV/Hybrid/ICE packaging (battery, e-drive, ICE, HV systems, thermal management)

· Background in body or chassis engineering and integration

· Experience with CAE collaboration, DFMEA, or tolerance analysis

· Exposure to design automation or parametric modelling.
