Role summary:The (USA) Director, Data Science leads the development and deployment of advanced analytical models and data strategies to drive business value. This role requires expertise in machine learning, data management, and coding to design scalable solutions aligned with organizational objectives. The director oversees data quality, model validation, and cross-functional collaboration to translate complex data into actionable insights. By guiding teams and fostering innovation, this position ensures the effective application of data science to support strategic decision-making and operational excellence within the company.
About the team:
The TAXI team leads Walmart’s Tax Transformation and Modernization initiative and supports Walmart Claims, leveraging advanced data science and engineering. The team builds scalable platforms to improve tax determination, exemptions, analytics, and governance while enabling accurate and efficient tax operations enterprise-wide. For Claims, the team applies data science, machine learning, and advanced analytics to identify patterns, automate processes, improve decision-making, and drive operational efficiency. Working closely with cross-functional partners, TAXI delivers reliable, sustainable solutions aligned with Walmart’s business and technology goals.
What you'll do:
- Lead the development and deployment of advanced data science solutions aligned with business strategies to drive measurable impact.
- Oversee model design, validation, and continuous improvement using machine learning and statistical techniques.
- Define data sourcing strategies, ensuring data quality and relevance for analytical initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to translate business requirements into actionable data science projects.
- Mentor and guide teams on feature engineering, automation, and analytical modeling best practices.
- Drive data visualization efforts to communicate insights effectively to stakeholders.
- Establish and implement data strategy frameworks supporting scalability and sustainability of models.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in data science, machine learning algorithms, and feature engineering to develop scalable analytical solutions.
- Proficiency in Python programming and automation to streamline data processes and model deployment.
- Strong knowledge of data strategy, management, and quality standards to ensure reliable and actionable insights.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
