Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced GNC Engineer III to solve challenging controls and localization problems using state-of-the-art techniques. The ideal candidate will develop simulations to validate control system designs and collaborate with a team of engineers to implement and validate control solutions for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
This role involves designing, developing, and overseeing various aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. The engineer may also be responsible for the installation and technical support of control systems and products.
The successful candidate will apply knowledge of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) concepts, practices, and procedures to solve complex engineering problems. The role requires technical expertise, sound judgment, creativity, and the ability to independently plan and accomplish engineering objectives while working collaboratively with the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop control and localization algorithms for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
- Model mechanical and electrical systems to simulate and validate proposed control solutions.
- Develop and implement advanced control algorithms to address complex engineering challenges.
- Perform simulations to verify the performance and effectiveness of control system designs.
- Assist in testing, debugging, and validating implemented control solutions.
- Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for improvements.
- Document engineering designs, technical analyses, simulations, and test results in the company's standard report format.
- Develop and synthesize innovative control solutions to address company-specific engineering challenges.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other GNC engineers as needed.
- Publish research findings in conference proceedings and technical journals.
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in control systems engineering.
- Assist in preparing technical proposals that require advanced control solutions.
- Identify and develop patentable control methods and technologies for the client.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful implementation and validation of control solutions.
Education:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on Controls and Localization.
Experience:
- 4–7 years of relevant industry experience in controls engineering, localization, or a related field.
- Experience designing, developing, and implementing control and localization algorithms.
- Experience modeling, simulating, testing, and validating complex control systems.
- Proficiency in state-space control techniques.
- Strong knowledge of localization algorithms and techniques.
- Experience with state-of-the-art control algorithms and controllers.
- Hands-on experience designing control and localization algorithms.
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
- Programming experience with Python, C/C++, or Robot Operating System (ROS).
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment regularly.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities using computer monitors.
- Ability to communicate effectively and exchange information in person, over the phone, and through electronic communication channels.
- Ability to move throughout an office environment as needed.
