The ideal candidate will develop simulations to validate control system designs and collaborate with a team of engineers to implement, test, and validate control solutions for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
The GNC Engineer III will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing various aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. The role may also involve the installation and technical support of control systems and products.
The successful candidate should possess a strong understanding of guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) concepts, practices, and procedures. This position requires the ability to apply technical expertise and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals, solve complex engineering problems, and contribute creative solutions.
The engineer will work under established guidelines and supervision while demonstrating technical leadership and the ability to perform a variety of complex engineering tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop control and localization algorithms for unmanned ground vehicles.
- Model mechanical and electrical systems to simulate and validate proposed control solutions.
- Develop and analyze control algorithms to address complex engineering challenges.
- Support the implementation, testing, and debugging of control systems and algorithms.
- Conduct simulations to verify system performance and the effectiveness of control solutions.
- Document engineering designs, analyses, simulation results, and testing outcomes in the company's standard report format.
- Develop innovative control solutions to address technical challenges relevant to the company.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to other GNC engineers as needed.
- Demonstrate technical leadership in control systems design and development.
- Contribute to technical proposals requiring control system solutions.
- Publish relevant research findings in conference proceedings and technical journals.
- Identify and support patenting opportunities for client-developed control methods and technologies.
- Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with an emphasis on Controls and Localization.
- 4–7 years of relevant industry experience in control systems, localization, or related engineering disciplines.
- Strong understanding of GNC principles, control system design, modeling, and simulation.
- Experience developing and implementing control solutions for complex mechanical or electrical systems.
Proficiency in:
- State-space control systems.
- Localization techniques and algorithms.
- State-of-the-art control methodologies and advanced controllers.
- Designing and developing control and localization algorithms.
- Creating detailed technical documentation, engineering reports, and design analyses.
- Programming using Python, C, C++, and/or Robot Operating System (ROS).
- Ability to remain in a stationary position at a computer workstation for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities effectively using computer monitors.
- Ability to communicate and exchange information effectively in person, over the phone, and through electronic communication platforms.
- Ability to move throughout an office environment as required.
