Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Migration Deployment Specialist – Scheduling (IZWS) to support large-scale mainframe scheduling migrations to an enterprise workload automation and scheduling platform.
This role will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in mainframe batch scheduling conversions and will play a key role in executing migration activities across development, test, and production sysplex environments.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in z/OS, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with application development teams, schedulers, project managers, internal teams, and customer stakeholders. This position will play a critical role in ensuring successful iterative parallel-tracking cycles and a smooth migration of batch workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the migration of batch scheduling workloads to an enterprise workload scheduling platform.
- Perform detailed analysis of legacy scheduling definitions, including CA-7, ESP, Jobtrac, Control-M, and other scheduling tools, and map them to IZWS structures.
- Execute iterative migration cycles, including parallel tracking, schedule validation, dependency resolution, and migration verification.
- Monitor batch workload execution using TSO/ISPF and IZWS interfaces.
- Analyze batch reports and scheduling data to identify issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Utilize and review the Dynamic Workload Console (DWC) for navigation, analysis, monitoring, and operational support.
- Develop, maintain, and update migration documentation, procedures, and reference materials.
- Collaborate with application schedulers, developers, system engineers, operations teams, and project stakeholders to resolve migration-related issues.
- Provide technical guidance and training to application teams, schedulers, and operational staff.
- Support best-practice cleanup and preparation activities prior to each sysplex migration.
- Assist with project planning, task estimation, scheduling, and coordination with project management teams.
- 5+ years of Mainframe experience (OS/390, z/OS) with advanced knowledge of core mainframe components and operational environments.
- 5+ years of experience with enterprise workload automation and job scheduling platforms.
- Strong experience with IZWS / IBM Z Workload Scheduler.
- Advanced proficiency with TSO/ISPF, including editing, system utilities, and dataset manipulation.
- Expert-level knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL), including structure, syntax, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of legacy scheduling platforms such as CA-7, ESP, Jobtrac, and Control-M.
- Intermediate-level experience with REXX programming, including writing and maintaining automation scripts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
