Role Overview
The Electronics Test and Validation team is responsible for module-level validation testing to ensure ECU electronics are designed and manufactured correctly. The team develops scalable tools, processes, hardware, and software solutions used across characterization, validation, and manufacturing activities.
The Electrical Characterization Engineer will be an individual contributor responsible for the design verification and characterization of vehicle electronics, with a particular focus on Zonal and Battery ECUs.
The engineer will collaborate closely with reliability, hardware design, firmware, and software teams to ensure electronic modules meet defined module-level requirements and performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed design verification and characterization test plans for all phases of ECU programs, incorporating input from reliability, design, and firmware teams.
- Lead the execution of characterization testing according to established project milestones.
- Own test coverage reports, test results, and associated analysis.
- Perform bench-level characterization at IC and PCBA levels.
- Provide early feedback to design engineers regarding design decisions, potential issues, and testability.
- Develop and present Design for Testability (DFT) reports for ECU designs.
- Own characterization schedules and communicate progress, risks, and status to upper management and cross-functional teams.
- Develop basic automation scripts and instrumentation drivers using Python to improve characterization testing efficiency.
- Collaborate with software and firmware engineers to flash, test, troubleshoot, and validate firmware.
- Lead cross-functional root-cause analysis of non-compliant test results.
- Leverage test data and engineering analysis to identify design, hardware, firmware, or system-level issues.
- Ensure characterization activities and documentation meet project requirements and quality standards.
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 10+ years of experience in electronics characterization and validation testing.
- Strong hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation, including:
- Oscilloscopes
- Power supplies
- Electronic loads
- Digital multimeters (DMMs)
- Other electronic test and measurement equipment
- Strong understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with IC-level and PCBA-level testing and characterization.
- Working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and communication buses.
- Experience with ECU electronics, preferably Zonal and/or Battery ECUs.
- Experience with Python scripting and data analysis.
- Ability to develop test automation scripts and instrumentation drivers.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with hardware, firmware, software, reliability, and other cross-functional engineering teams.
