Role Name: Electrical Characterization Engineer

Job Description
The Electronics Test and Validation team owns module-level validation testing for our clients. The team is responsible for ensuring that ECU electronics are designed and manufactured correctly. To achieve this goal, we develop scalable tools, processes, hardware, and software solutions that support characterization, validation, and manufacturing.
The Electrical Characterization Engineer will serve as an individual contributor with a critical role in owning the design verification and characterization of vehicle electronics, with a particular focus on Zonal and Battery ECUs.
This position will work cross-functionally with reliability, design, firmware, and software engineering teams to ensure electronics are designed and validated to meet module-level requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed design verification and characterization test plans for all phases of ECU programs, incorporating input from reliability, design, and firmware teams.
  • Lead the execution of characterization testing plans according to established project milestones.
  • Own test coverage reports, results, and analysis.
  • Perform bench-level characterization at both IC and PCBA levels.
  • Provide early feedback to design engineers regarding design decisions, testability, and potential technical issues.
  • Develop and present Design for Testability (DFT) reports for ECU designs.
  • Own characterization schedules and communicate project status to upper management and cross-functional teams.
  • Write basic automation scripts and instrumentation drivers using Python to improve the speed and efficiency of characterization testing.
  • Work closely with software engineers to flash, test, and troubleshoot firmware.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to identify and resolve the root causes of non-compliant test results through detailed data analysis.
 
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications:
  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in electronics characterization and validation testing.
  • Hands-on experience using laboratory instrumentation, including:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Power supplies
    • Electronic loads
    • Digital multimeters
    • Other electrical test and measurement equipment
  • Strong understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and communication buses.
  • Experience with Python scripting and data analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with design, firmware, software, reliability, and other cross-functional engineering teams.
 
Additional Requirements Provided:
  • Demonstrated success delivering IBM Maximo/MAS implementations, upgrades, cloud migrations, and enterprise integration programs on time and within budget.
  • Strong executive stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and business concepts to senior leadership.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams of architects, developers, functional consultants, integration specialists, and support personnel.
  • Proven track record of driving customer satisfaction, delivery excellence, and account growth through successful project execution.
