Position Summary
The Education Lieutenant coordinates and supports clinical education, training, and provider development programs across the District. Working under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Clinical Services, this position maintains training records, supports the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP), and assists with simulation, continuing education, and instructor coordination.
The Education Lieutenant must maintain current Paramedic certification and the operational capability to function in the field when required. Depending on organizational structure, this role may be one of one or more positions within the Clinical Services Division supporting education and training.
Essential Functions
The following represent the essential functions and primary responsibilities of this position. Individual duties may evolve based on program needs, District priorities, regulatory requirements, and organizational needs..
Training Program Support
• Plan and deliver District clinical education programs, skills labs, and simulation exercises
• Assist instructors during educational courses and training events
• Prepare training materials, equipment, and environments for scheduled sessions
• Support agency training days and special educational programs
• Support implementation of new clinical initiatives, equipment training, and guideline updates
Continuing Education & Certification Tracking
• Track provider continuing education requirements and certification status, including NREMT, OATH, and specialty endorsements
• Maintain education records within training platforms such as Vector Solutions
• Assist providers in locating and completing required training modules
• Document continuing education activities and course completions
Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) Support
• Maintain FTEP training materials and documentation
• Support onboarding education for new employees entering the FTEP program
• Track the progress of field interns through the FTEP process
• Coordinate training resources with Field Training Officers (FTOs)
• Identify training needs for providers progressing through field training
Quality Improvement Education Support
• Support educational initiatives identified through QA/QI processes
• Develop training materials addressing identified clinical trends
• Facilitate case-based education sessions and training discussions
Shift & Operational Responsibilities
• Complete all documentation accurately and on time
• Maintain compliance with District policies, clinical protocols, and safety standards
• Maintain required training, credentialing, and Medical Director requirements
• Perform duties consistent with the District's Paramedic position description when assigned to field response
• Performance in this position is evaluated through ongoing coaching, periodic check-ins, and formal performance evaluations in accordance with the District's Performance Management Policy
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned consistent with the nature and level of the position.

• Work is performed in a mix of office, classroom, field training, and other District or community locations.
• Certain administrative, planning, documentation, or other duties may be performed remotely when appropriate and authorized by the District.
• Must maintain the physical and clinical qualifications required to function as a Paramedic, including field response when necessary
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, and move while preparing and delivering training
• Must be able to lift, carry, and set up training equipment and simulation supplies
• May be required to travel throughout the District's service area to deliver or support training.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
• Current Colorado Paramedic certification in good standing
• Minimum three years as a practicing paramedic, with at least one year serving as a Field Training Officer (FTO)
• Currently assigned to or actively participating in a secondary education-related special duty, instructor role, or training assignment
• Valid Colorado driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred
• Experience as a clinical instructor or course facilitator
• Associate or bachelor's degree in EMS, healthcare, education, or a related field
• Instructor certifications (AHA, EMS instructor, or equivalent)
• Experience with training platforms, simulation, or provider education initiatives

• Professional judgment — recognizes when an issue requires consultation or escalation to the Deputy Chief of Clinical Services
Grant-Funded Position: This is a grant-funded, limited-term position anticipated to continue for up to five (5) years.
Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding and ongoing program and operational
needs. The position may end earlier if grant funding is reduced, discontinued, or otherwise becomes unavailable.
