About The Job:
- We are looking for an experienced Unix Build Engineer with strong Linux, Puppet, and cloud platform (AWS/GCP) expertise.
- This role will support data center migrations, AWS EC2 rehost activities, and SOE (Standard Operating Environment) releases across AWS and GCP.
- The engineer will be responsible for designing new build environments, automating configuration management using Puppet, and ensuring stable build pipelines across hybrid and cloud environments
Data Center Migration & New Build Environments
- Build and configure new Unix/Linux environments in target data centers as part of migration programs.
- Recreate build pipelines, compilers, libraries, tools, and dependencies in migrated environments.
- Ensure parity between on-prem data centers and cloud build environments (AWS/GCP).
- Troubleshoot system, network, and application-level issues related to migration.
- Support lift-and-shift (rehost) migrations of Unix/Linux workloads into AWS EC2.
- Validate application builds and pipelines postāmigration to EC2.
- Optimize EC2 instances, OS settings, storage (EBS/NFS), and network configurations for build systems.
- Work with cloud teams to migrate associated services (databases, artifacts, filesystems, IAM roles).
- Develop and maintain SOE images (AMI for AWS, custom images for GCP) for Linux servers.
- Automate the creation, validation, and release of SOE using Puppet and CI/CD pipelines.
- Integrate SOE updates into build and deployment workflows across cloud and onāprem environments.
- Ensure compliance, security baselines, and patching policies for cloud SOE images.
- Configure and manage build servers using Puppet manifests, modules, classes, and Hiera.
- Automate server provisioning and enforce configuration consistency across onāprem and cloud environments.
- Integrate Puppet automation into CI/CD and build pipelines.
- Develop and maintain build automation scripts using Shell (Bash/KornShell) and Python.
- Manage multi-application build pipelines across CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo, TeamCity).
- Troubleshoot build failures and dependency issues across environments.
- Administer Linux servers: OS patching, package management, NFS mounts, services, users/groups.
- Set up and optimize build farm infrastructure in both data center and cloud setups.
- Work with Networking, Storage, IAM/Security teams during environment setup.
- Manage Git repositories, branching strategies, and build triggers.
- Migrate VCS dependencies to cloud-based solutions (e.g., GitLab, Bitbucket Cloud).
- Prepare detailed documentation related to migration, cloud builds, Puppet setups, and SOE releases.
- Collaborate with Application, DevOps, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams across the migration lifecycle.
Technical Skills
- 7ā8 years of experience in Unix/Linux engineering and build/release automation.
- Strong hands-on experience with Puppet ā manifests, modules, Hiera, Enterprise/OSS.
- Experience in AWS EC2 rehost activities (lift-and-shift migrations).
- Experience building and releasing SOE/Gold Images in AWS (AMI) and GCP (Custom Images).
- Perform RHEL 7-8-9 in-place upgrade using LEAPP and troubleshoot.
- In Depth knowledge in Veritas cluster setup, patching, upgrade.
- Solaris Jumpstart/AI OS install process, Patch management and manage CDOM/IO using OEM.
- AIX LPAR creation, manage VIOS, HMC and patch management.
- Strong Shell scripting (Bash/Ksh) and Python scripting skills.
- Expertise with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo, TeamCity.
- Knowledge of network basics (DNS, routing, firewalls) and storage (NFS/EBS).
- Familiarity with HyperV, Ansible, or Terraform is a strong advantage.
- Understanding of cloud security, roles, policies, and tagging strategies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across complex infra.
- Effective communicator able to work with multiple technical teams.
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Excellent documentation skills
- Bachelorās degree in IT, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Experience in hybrid/multi-cloud environments involving AWS and GCP.
- History of working on enterpriseāscale DC migration programs.
