Job Title: University Faculty Sourcer
Location: Oakland, CA
Pay Rate: $34.49 per hour
Duration: 3 Months---20 hours per week
Summary:
- The University Faculty Sourcer builds relationships with prospective faculty and develops candidate pipelines for current and anticipated academic openings.
- Working with Talent Acquisition, deans, department chairs, and search committees.
- Translates academic hiring needs into focused sourcing strategies.
- Helps qualified candidates understand the opportunity to teach, conduct research, and contribute to the university community.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with academic leaders and recruiters to clarify each position’s required credentials, teaching or clinical experience, research expectations, and hiring priorities before sourcing begins.
- Build candidate pipelines for hard-to-fill and future faculty openings through professional associations, academic networks, conferences, publications, referrals, and direct outreach.
- Write personalized outreach that accurately describes the role, institution, and faculty expectations.
- Conduct initial conversations to assess interest, relevant qualifications, location preferences, and potential timing. Refer candidates to the recruiter or search committee for formal evaluation.
- Maintain timely, accurate records of prospects, outreach, responses, and next steps in the university’s recruiting system.
- Share regular pipeline updates, including candidate availability, common barriers, and recommendations for adjusting the search.
- Support broad outreach across institutions, professional communities, and career paths while following university hiring policies and applicable requirements.
- Coordinate with recruiters to ensure interested candidates receive a clear handoff and consistent communication.
Requirements:
- Experience in talent sourcing, recruiting, academic search, or a closely related field.
- Experience tracking candidate activity and producing clear pipeline reports.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and engage candidates through research and direct outreach.
- Ability to learn faculty appointment requirements and distinguish required qualifications from preferences.
- Strong writing and relationship-building skills, with sound judgment when communicating with senior academic professionals.
- Ability to manage multiple searches with different stakeholders, priorities, and timelines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience sourcing faculty, researchers, clinicians, or other specialized professionals.
- Familiarity with higher education hiring, faculty ranks, accreditation-related qualifications, or discipline-specific credential requirements.
- Experience partnering with deans, department chairs, and search committees.
- Experience building pipelines for difficult-to-fill disciplines or locations.
