Abstrabit is a Private AI engineering company building AI-powered products and solutions for businesses. We work across the AI stack — from deploying and evaluating private and open-weight models to building production applications, agents, workflows, and integrations on top of them.

Our engineering work is organized across two closely connected layers: theAI layer, focused on models, inference, evaluation, and AI infrastructure; and theapplication layer, focused on building reliable, scalable software products that use those AI capabilities.

The Context

AI systems become valuable only when the applications around them are reliable, maintainable, and well designed.

That requires more than feature development. It requires good technical judgment around architecture, APIs, data models, integrations, reliability, security, observability, and how application systems should interact with AI inference services.

Our Senior Software Engineers help own this application layer.

We are looking for engineers who can take an ambiguous product or technical problem, turn it into a clear implementation plan, make sound design decisions, and guide the team through delivery.

About the Role

As aSenior Software Engineer, you will take ownership of significant parts of the application layer of our AI products.

You will design and build production systems, lead implementation of complex features, make architecture and technology decisions, solve difficult production problems, and help other engineers deliver high-quality software.

You will work across technologies such asTypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, databases, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and distributed application components, while collaborating closely with our AI engineering team.

This role is suited for an engineer who is comfortable operating with incomplete information, making practical trade-offs, and taking responsibility for a system beyond the code they personally write.

What You'll Work On

Depending on the project, you may work on:

  • Designing and building major frontend and backend components.

  • Turning product requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.

  • Designing APIs, data models, workflows, and service boundaries.

  • Integrating application systems with AI inference services, RAG systems, agents, and other AI capabilities.

  • Making architecture decisions around scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.

  • Debugging complex issues across application, infrastructure, database, and integration layers.

  • Reviewing code and technical designs from other engineers.

  • Improving testing, observability, deployment, and engineering practices.

  • Guiding Software Engineers and Interns through technical decisions and implementation challenges.

  • Working with AI engineers to define clean interfaces between the model layer and the application layer.

  • Identifying technical risks early and proposing practical ways to address them.

  • Taking ownership of production systems after release, not just during development.

We are looking for engineers with strong technical judgment and a track record of owning production software.

You should have:

  • At least 3 years of hands-on full-stack software development experience, with experience designing, building, and maintaining production applications across frontend and backend.

  • Strong software engineering and problem-solving fundamentals.

  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining production web applications.

  • Strong understanding of backend systems, APIs, databases, and modern application architecture.

  • Ability to work effectively across frontend and backend when required.

  • Experience making technical design decisions and explaining the trade-offs behind them.

  • Strong debugging skills across multiple layers of a system.

  • Good understanding of testing, reliability, performance, security, and observability.

  • Ability to review code and improve the technical quality of work produced by others.

  • Ability to break ambiguous problems into clear, executable engineering tasks.

  • Clear communication with engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders.

  • A strong sense of ownership for systems from design through production.

Experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, AWS, AI integrations, or distributed systems is useful, but we care more about depth of engineering judgment than an exact stack match.

Using AI as an Engineer

We use AI tools as part of our engineering workflow, and we expect senior engineers to use them effectively. We do not evaluate senior engineers based on how much code they can write without assistance.

What matters is whether you canevaluate generated solutions, recognize weak designs, identify hidden risks, test assumptions, debug complex failures, and make better technical decisions than the tool alone can make.

At this level, AI should increase your leverage. It should not replace your judgment.

What This Role Is Not

This isnot an AI research or model-engineering role.

Your primary responsibility will be the application and product layer, while working closely with engineers responsible for model deployment, inference, evaluation, and AI infrastructure.

This role isn't just about implementing tickets.

You will be expected to question requirements when needed, identify missing technical considerations, propose better approaches, and help shape how systems are built.

Nor is this purely an individual-contributor coding role.

You will still write substantial code, but part of your responsibility is to improve the quality and effectiveness of the engineers working around you.

Why Join Abstrabit

You will work on production systems where modern software engineering meets Private AI.

You will:

  • Design applications that interact directly with private and open-weight AI models.

  • Work on technically complex systems spanning application engineering, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and AI.

  • Influence architecture and engineering practices rather than only implement predefined solutions.

  • Work closely with AI engineers on the boundary between inference systems and production applications.

  • Own meaningful systems and technical decisions.

  • Mentor and guide engineers while continuing to remain hands-on.

  • Gain deeper exposure to how production AI systems are designed and operated end to end.

Our Interview Process - Our hiring process is designed to evaluate technical judgment, ownership, and how you approach real engineering problems.

Step 1: Application Screening - We review your experience, projects, and evidence that you have built and shipped meaningful software.

Step 2: Engineering Assessment - You will complete a practical engineering exercise based on the type of problems you may encounter at Abstrabit.

AI tools are allowed. We care about correctness, maintainability, edge cases, technical decisions, and how you structure a solution, not how much code you can produce from memory.

Step 3: Technical Discussion - You will discuss your solution and broader engineering decisions with our team. We may introduce changing requirements, production constraints, scaling concerns, failures, or alternative architectures and ask you to reason through them.

This discussion is intended to evaluate system thinking, debugging ability, trade-off analysis, and technical judgment.

Step 4: Final Conversation - A discussion about your experience, ownership expectations, ways of working, growth, and whether Abstrabit is the right environment for you.
