Disability Resource Services at Madison College is seeking aDisability Resource Specialist to join the team. This position plays a key role in ensuring equitable access to education by evaluating disability documentation, determining eligibility for reasonable accommodations, and coordinating individualized support services for students with disabilities.
TheDisability Resource Specialist provides ongoing case management and works directly with students to understand their needs, facilitate their transition to college, and authorizes accommodations that support access and academic success. This role collaborates closely with faculty, staff, community organizations, schools, and agencies to implement approved accommodations, address accessibility concerns, and strengthen support networks for students.
This position also promotes disability awareness and advocates for an inclusive learning environment by identifying and addressing barriers to accessibility, including bias, ableism, and other challenges that may impact students with disabilities.
TheDisability Resource Specialist will support students at all campuses, but primarily Truax and Goodman South. Travel to the other campuses will be required, based on departmental needs.
Position Details:
Schedule: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. General operational hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, with occasional nights and weekends based on operational needs. Additionally, this position is onsite with the option to work remotely based on operational needs, subject to change in accordance with Madison College policy.
Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting the outlined criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.

Accountabilities:
- Ensures equitable access to education by coordinating and providing reasonable accommodation, collaborating with faculty and staff to implement approved support that enhances student success.
- Determines accommodation eligibility by evaluating disability documentation, assisting students in obtaining updated records and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
- Facilitate student transitions into college by conducting intake assessments, engaging in interactive interviews and authorizing accommodation that aligns with students’ needs and learning environments.
- Provides ongoing case management and support by monitoring student progress, addressing accommodation concerns and adjusting support strategies to promote academic success.
- Strengthens disability awareness and outreach by participating in programs, orientations and partnerships with community groups, schools and agencies to enhance support networks.
- Advocates for an inclusive learning environment by addressing attitudinal barriers, bias and ableism, fostering a culture of equity and accessibility for students with disabilities.
- Deliver presentations about Disability Resource Services, providing accommodation, and related topics.
- Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of disability laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Knowledge of disability documentation requirements, assessment methods and accommodation processes.
- Skill in evaluating disability documentation, determining accommodation eligibility and assisting students.
- Skill in case management, including monitoring student progress, adjusting accommodation and collaborating with faculty and staff to implement support strategies.
- Ability to conduct intake assessments, engage students in interactive interviews and authorize accommodations.
- Ability to advocate for disability inclusion, challenge attitudinal barriers and promote institutional awareness.
- Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
- Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
- Ability to demonstrate unique sensitivity to students with disabilities and offer encouragement, build confidence, enhance self-esteem, and assist with establishing personal academic and other goals.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in the use of Windows-based systems and proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as software applications relevant to area of responsibility.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, special education, vocational rehabilitation, human services, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, special education, vocational rehabilitation preferred. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement should be in addition to the minimum years required for the position.
 Experience:
- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the skills required to successfully perform the accountabilities of this position, preferably within educational or community-based organizations serving individuals with physical, mental, or other disabilities.Â
- Preferred candidates will have at least one year of experience determining accommodations and/or working with individuals on the autism spectrum.  Â
