This role provides specialized translations engineering support for capital projects involving the evolution of voice services from legacy Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technologies to a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation, and troubleshooting of network translations necessary to execute these migrations, ensuring services are transitioned accurately and with minimal network impact.
Responsibilities:
- Review capital-project requirements, network designs, and engineering documentation to identify translations and network configuration requirements
- Analyze existing legacy TDM voice-network configurations to determine necessary changes for migration to the SIP environment
- Design, develop, and implement translations for call routing, trunking, signaling, screening, numbering, and traffic migration
- Support the migration of voice trunks and associated network traffic from legacy switching platforms
- Coordinate translations requirements across legacy switching systems, CSP equipment, signaling infrastructure, and transport facilities
- Develop detailed implementation procedures, Methods of Procedure (MOPs), test plans, and back-out plans
- Perform pre-implementation analysis to identify routing conflicts, dependencies, or service impacts
- Implement approved translations changes during scheduled maintenance windows
- Perform post-migration testing and validation to verify successful call routing and network functions
- Troubleshoot and resolve translations-related problems encountered during migration and testing
- Maintain accurate project records documenting designs, changes, test results, and final configurations
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, telecommunications, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Significant hands-on experience with translations engineering in carrier-class voice networks
- Strong working knowledge of legacy TDM voice switching and associated call-routing, trunking, and signaling functions
- Understanding of SIP-based voice-network architecture and principles of TDM-to-SIP transitions
- Understanding of SS7 signaling concepts
- Demonstrated experience supporting complex network migrations, modernization programs, or switch consolidations
- Experience developing and executing MOPs, implementation procedures, and test plans
- Ability to independently analyze complex call-routing, signaling, and translations issues
- Comfortable working within formal network change-management processes and executing changes during maintenance windows
- Adept at using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
Desired skills:
- Direct experience with Ribbon voice, session border controller, media gateway, or related carrier-class network platforms
- Direct experience with Stratus telecommunications platforms
- Experience with circuit emulation technologies used to transport legacy TDM services
- Experience migrating voice traffic from legacy TDM switching systems to SIP-based infrastructure
- Experience with SS7 signaling networks, including A-Links and signaling transfer points
- Experience interpreting ISUP/Q.764, Q.931, SIP, and other telecommunications signaling protocols
- Experience with carrier-class trunk groups, routing plans, and numbering plans
- Experience developing automation or data-processing scripts using Python, Perl, VBScript, or similar technologies
Pay range: $23.00 - $33.00 per hour
