Under the direction of the Staff Captain, the Third Officer – Postgraduate is training to become a future Deck Officer. The designated Training Officer will ensure exposure to all areas of the Deck department, monitoring the progress and reviewing the work on various tasks being completed by the Third Officer – Postgraduate, including on-the-job practical training in the day-to-day operations of the ship. Additionally, further guidance and mentoring is received from Senior Officers on the projects assigned and personal development. The Third Officer – Postgraduate is responsible for following the training plan and updating Staff Captain during one-on-one meetings.• Navigation Bridge Watch (Schedule as specified by the Staff Captain) to In Port – Carry out Officer of the Watch responsibilities as directed Underway – Assist the Officer of the Watch as directed
• Weather and Communications – (including responding to inquiries, notice to ECR, etc.)
• Alarms – Antronica (monitor/backup Quartermaster) special needs stateroom alarms • Administrative tasks – NAPA Logbook, supporting the Navigator
• Under the direction of the First Officer, monitor the navigational progress of the vessel
• Mooring stations during arrivals and departures• Administrative tasks – checklists, record keeping
• Assist the Chief Officer Safety with day-to-day operation and maintenance, Quality Assurance, training of Crew, as well as other projects assigned by the Chief Officer or the Staff Captain.
• Assist with Maintenance and upkeep of ship’s certificates and documents under Staff Captain’s guidance• Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan• Assist Chief Officer Safety with STCW certificate verification.
• Shadow responsible officer for the corrections and update of all publications in the Radio Station and radio signals publications on the Bridge.
• Shadow testing of the GMDSS communication equipment under supervision of the assigned junior officer and properly logs results in the Radio Logbook and the AMOS System.• Verify SMS updates for applicable deck department items.
• Flags inventory and requisition as directed by First Officer Navigation.
• Provides professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behavior.
• The Master and or the Staff Captain may delegate any other duties as necessary
• Step in and support directly with any responsibilities as needed or directed.
Additional Information
This is a SHIPBOARD role.You must:
- Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
- Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
- If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations
- Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
- Complete a pre-employment medical
- Obtain a criminal background check
