Senior Filmmaker

Our church... is a non-denominational multi-site church with four St. Louis-area campuses where we gather each weekend to study this ancient story found in Scripture that is still transforming lives today. We believe church should be a place where believers in Jesus and skeptics can stand side-by-side to study truth and ask tough questions. We blend teaching and worship with art and technology to create a service where you can experience the message of Jesus in practical and life-changing ways.

Senior Filmmaker......is a creative leader and compelling visual storyteller who helps people see and respond to what God is doing in and through The Crossing.

The Senior Filmmaker will be full time and is the primary hands-on video producer for The Crossing. This person leads the concepting, planning, filming, editing, and delivery of video content across worship services, ministries, digital platforms, and other church-wide experiences. The right person is an accomplished filmmaker who is energized by the opportunity to ask better questions, explore new possibilities, and create work that points people to Jesus.

This person will thrive in a fast-moving, collaborative environment and will be trusted to lead themselves and others with initiative, integrity, creativity, and a consistently high standard of execution.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the primary hands-on filmmaker for The Crossing, personally leading and participating in every stage of production—including concepting, creative development, pre-production, filming, directing, editing, review, and final delivery.
• Manage video projects from initial discovery and creative brief through final delivery and post-project evaluation, coordinating timelines, stakeholders, resources, and production details throughout. Bring a future-facing creative perspective to the video team by identifying opportunities to improve how The Crossing tells stories, produces video, develops people, uses technology, and reaches audiences.
• Challenge familiar approaches with humility and purpose, testing new ideas, formats, workflows, and tools when they can help The Crossing create more meaningful, effective, and excellent work.
• Translate ministry goals, teaching themes, stories of life change, and organizational priorities into clear, compelling, and emotionally resonant visual stories.
• Oversee The Crossing’s video studio, equipment, and related creative resources, ensuring they are organized, functional, and prepared to support excellent work.
• Maintain a system for organizing footage, project files, media assets, equipment records, and production documentation so the team can locate, share, protect, and build upon its work with confidence.
• Assess current and future production needs; research, recommend, and help implement equipment, software, workflow, and studio improvements.
• Partner with the Art Director to help develop, manage, and steward the video-production budget.
• Recruit, train, schedule, lead, and care for a small team of video volunteers.
• Work closely with the other video-team member and contractors to plan and execute shoots, while personally remaining responsible for the quality, completion, and delivery of each project.
• Participate in creative meetings, helping add to overall creativity of the church.

Necessary Skills and Abilities

• Strong proficiency in the full video-production process, including concept development, interviews, story structure, pre-production planning, filming, editing, color, sound, and final delivery.
• Expert working knowledge of professional video-production equipment and workflows, including cameras, lenses, lighting, audio, and on-set production.
• Strong visual and editorial judgment, with an understanding of pacing, composition, music, tone, narrative structure, audience engagement, and platform-appropriate storytelling.
• Ability to manage multiple projects from broad direction through polished final delivery, incorporating ministry objectives, deadlines, feedback, revisions, and shifting priorities with clarity and excellence.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, including the ability to lead creative conversations; maintain disciplined file, asset, and workflow systems; and stay current with emerging creative technology, video formats, and digital-platform behavior.

Education/Training/Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in film, broadcast, media production, communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Seven or more years of relevant experience in filmmaking, video production, creative direction, agency work, church media, nonprofit communications, or a comparable creative environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring creative professionals, freelancers, contractors, volunteers, or project teams.
• A strong portfolio that demonstrates excellence in visual storytelling, narrative development, production quality, and creative range.
• Proven experience in pre-production, on-set production, and post-production, including planning, filming, editing, revision management, and final delivery.
