Job Overview
Pascal develops solid refrigerant technologies for cooling a warming world. Heating, cooling, and refrigeration technologies are critical to modern life but use nearly 40% of all energy generated today, release potent greenhouse gas refrigerants to the atmosphere, and are too expensive to be adopted worldwide. This has to change, and fast, so Pascal’s working to better refrigeration (and air conditioning and heat pumps) through materials science and engineering.
What You’ll Do: Mission Critical Experimentation and Performance Validation
As an early-stage technology developer we need to quickly find the right paths forward. This often means doing experiments and building prototypes to assess the viability of a potential solution. This experimentation leads to design concepts which then need to be systematically validated. Pascal is seeking an early career test engineer who can work in both of these modes. The role involves several facets of this process:
Collaborating with material scientists and engineers to design experimental equipment and procedures.
Executing exploratory experiments and debugging rapidly built prototypes.
Planning and executing structured experiments to determine compliance with design targets.
Data analysis using advanced statistics and data processing techniques.
Planning and executing long term test campaigns and distilling out the knowledge generated.
Reporting and discussing both the recent results and long-term learnings with the extended technical team.
Requirements
Experience in experimentation in a materials science, thermal engineering or chemistry environment.
Familiarity with product validation and certification test programs.
Ability to design experiments and analyze data using statistical approaches
Experience with various data acquisition and controls platforms including industrial PLCs ( Beckhoff) but also more laboratory-oriented systems such as LabJack, Arduino, National Instruments, etc.
Comfort with the culture of advanced hardware technology development start-ups.
Open-ended problems
Rapid change cycles
Directional and aspirational goals rather than precise specifications and targets
A hunger to learn and solve problems in new technology fields
Familiarity with precision gas handling equipment, heat exchangers, fluid state and flow measurements, and controls
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $90,000-$100,000 or commensurate with experience. We have a strong employee stock option plan so you can share in our success. We are committed to equitable compensation across our company, and we offer a generous benefits package to ensure you have the support you need. We cover 60% of the medical insurance premiums for our employees and their dependents on our base plans, and 100% of dental and vision insurance premiums. We offer an unlimited paid time off policy and encourage people to take regular vacations. We provide an employee-contribution 401(k) in addition to many other benefits. Every employee, regardless of gender identity or expression, is also eligible for 12 weeks of paid parental bonding leave after their one-year anniversary at the company.
