Job Title: Test Engineer - CMS Federal Healthcare
Location: Tysons Corner, VA (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role
Sky Solutions is seeking a Test Engineer to support a large-scale CMS federal healthcare technology program. The Test Engineer will be responsible for validating application functionality, executing functional and backend testing, and developing automated tests using modern testing tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform functional validation and testing of web-based applications to ensure requirements and business workflows are met.
  • Design, execute, and maintain manual and automated test cases across application features and releases.
  • Develop and execute automated tests using Playwright and/or Codecept.
  • Perform database and backend validation, including SQL queries, data verification, and end-to-end data validation.
  • Identify, document, troubleshoot, and track defects through resolution.
  • Validate APIs, application workflows, data processing, and integrations as applicable.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and other QA/test team members in an Agile environment.
  • Participate in test planning, test execution, regression testing, integration testing, and release validation.
  • Use AI-assisted development/testing tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar tools to improve test creation, test automation, troubleshooting, documentation, or analysis.
  • Review and validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, and maintainability.
  • Support continuous improvement of testing processes, automation coverage, and overall product quality.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing / quality assurance / test engineering.
  • Strong experience with functional testing and validation of web applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright, Codecept, or similar modern test automation frameworks.
  • Experience performing database/backend validation using SQL.
  • Experience with test case development, execution, defect tracking, and regression testing.
  • Hands-on experience using at least one AI-assisted development/testing tool, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting CMS, federal healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, or other federal government programs.
  • Experience with API testing and validation.
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing within DevOps/DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience with cloud-based applications, particularly AWS.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar defect/test management platforms.
  • Familiarity with Java/Spring Boot or other modern application technologies.

Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $70,000 - $120,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
The posted range reflects the Sky's reasonable estimate at the time of posting and does not guarantee a specific salary or rate. Final compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and applicable contractual and business considerations.
