Position Summary
The Manager, Marketing and Communications is a full-time employee of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) and reports to the Sr. Manager of Marketing and Communications. They are responsible for the creation and implementation of GSGLA marketing and communications efforts. In collaboration with the marketing and communications team (MarComm), this function spans internal and external communications; marketing communications; support for events; and content/asset creation and management for internal and external web-based properties and social media channels. They will play a role in the MarComm management team and will be responsible for developing consistent and cohesive messaging and materials across departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Position the organization as the preeminent organization for girls and young women grades K-12 among key target audiences. Cultivate and steward strong external relationships with industry professionals and vendors.
- Develop compelling brand and data-driven stories and consumer campaigns that resonate with target audiences
- Drive brand development and storytelling across channels
- Build a broad understanding of the Girl Scouts programin order to demonstrate expertise with the media
- Understand and interpret how Girl Scouts benefits girls and address this knowledge in marketing, events,brand and communications strategies
- Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration with other organizations and individuals as related to marketing, events, brand and communications strategies
- Utilizeexpertise and experience to manage, oversee, and align consistent and cohesive GSGLA messaging both internally and externally; and maintain alignment with the GSUSA brand voice.
- Support Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications and Sr. Manager of Marketing and Communications in developing,managing and executing annual strategic marketing and communications plans for GSGLA to span across all media (traditional/print, digital and broadcast) and reach appropriate target audiences, based upon specific performance goals. Evaluate the success of various strategies and provide and implement recommendations for improvement
- Proactively provide innovation across all communication vehicles that GSGLA uses (offline and online) andprovide competitive insight into GSGLA communications and branding strategies
- Lead the broader community of GSGLA as a visionary marketing and communications expert – provide all resources necessary to ensure that the MarComm department, greater GSGLA staff, Girl Scouts and volunteers (when applicable) speak with one voice that demonstrates that the Girl Scouts Movement advocates for girl ambition by supporting all girls.
- Write interesting and effective content and collateral for use across all marketing,communication and events channels
- Ensure the use of onebrand voice.
- Develop messaging and assets that create a cohesive brand for print and all offline/traditional marketing,communication and events vehicles, including but not limited to: Product Program, GVE/Highest Awards, and GEM Program
- Collaborate with MarComm colleagues and oversee Marketing Associate in developing and maintaining all digital marketing, communication and events vehicles, including but not limited to:
- Social media channels and scheduling platform
- Canva, Canto
- GSGLA website and related microsites
- Email publications and communication
- In-house video and photo shooting and editing
- Support Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications and Sr. Manager of Marketing and Communications in creating written materials, presentations, and graphic/digital design for GSGLA in-person, digital and hybrid events -- including signature events Annual Meeting, Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, Gold Award Ceremony, Silver Award Ceremony, and She Leads; and Product Program webinars/tutorials, ensuring cohesion, consistency and brand alignment.
- In partnership with the Girl and Volunteer Experience (GVE) team, develop and lead the Girls Exploring Media (GEM) program for 50 Girl Scouts, including recruiting and assessing readiness for the program, budgeting, leading and executing events, program planning, recruiting industry professionals and speakers, and coordinating GEM and chaperone participation at high profile quarterly and opportunistic events for both GSUSA and GSGLA;
- Manage outside vendors including but not limited to photographers, designers, videographers/editors, events personnel and oversee their delivery of successful workproduct, working collaboratively with Sr. Manager of Marketing and Communications.

Proven record of functioning as a self-starter who can work independently with minimal oversight and take initiative; demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, self-management, and organization. Highly motivated and target driven with a proven track record in sales.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated, progressive experience in marketing, advertising, digital communications, graphic design, writing and communications
- High proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Proficient in Adobe Experience Manager (or similar), HTML and web development/maintenance skills
- Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, Google Analytics (or similar applications) a plus
- Excellent business acumen and broad experience/understanding of all facets of marketing and communication
- Outstanding editing, proofreading and written and oral communication skills; proficiency in copywriting
- Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
- Demonstrated competency in leading others in a goal and action-oriented manner
- Completion of GSGLA mandatory supervisor training curriculum
- Excellent organization and project management skills
- Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral)
- Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building for the organization
- Results-oriented and a passion for creativity
- Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and/or events

- Non-profit experience; experience in Girl Scout organization a plus
- Valid California driver’s license, vehicle in working condition, proof of insurance and the ability to fulfill timely and extensive travel requirements across a large geographical area

GSGLA Employee Requirements
- Comply with state-mandated reporter training
- Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
- The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The environment for this position is mostly clean and comfortable but may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. In the course of performing this work, the incumbent:
- Will spend time sitting, utilizing the computer.
- Will spend time standing/walking throughout the facilities.
- Must travel via personal vehicle or public transport to various facilities throughout the region.
- May lift up to 15 lbs. periodically. If more, the incumbent must request assistance.
