What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Technical Writer to join the Residential Energy Team in Melbourne. In this role, you will manage the knowledge base for residential products, focusing on process, software, and product content for an internal audience.Â
As a technical writer supporting business operations, you will develop a strong understanding of how Tesla's energy business runs and how it interacts with various internal software systems. By using in-house tools, partnering with project and program managers across service, quality, and design, and collaborating with the diagnostics, training, and technical operations teams, you will help drive the growth and acceleration of products such as Powerwall and Wall Connector.Â
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and build strong working relationships
- Help document business processes and systems in a way that is clear and accessible to non-technical users
- Validate information for accuracy and follow established review and approval processes
- Turn verbal explanations and observations into clear, concise written procedures and instructions
- Edit and format content to align with style guides and organisational standards
- Structure content for better AI parsing by applying consistent formatting, metadata, and keeping documents up to date
- Assist with migrating content to new templates and knowledge management systems
- Track tasks and manage information flow using tools such as JIRA, SharePoint, and internal databases
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in English, Technical/Professional Writing, Communications, or equivalent practical experience
- 1-2 years of technical writing or relevant documentation experience in a high-tech, engineering, or operations environment
- Demonstrated ability to create clear process and procedural documentation that helps others understand complex topics
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in daily work and genuine interest in improving how they can be leveraged for documentation
- Positive attitude with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and fast-paced project demands
- Familiarity with SharePoint, HTML, XML, or DITA (or strong willingness to learn)
- Ability to manage multiple documentation tasks while following established processes and meeting deadlines
- Comfort creating simple visual aids such as annotated screenshots, callouts, or basic diagrams to support written content
