Job Title: Technical Operations Engineer

Location: West Palm Beach, FL – On-Site; Travel Up to 10%

Reports To: CEO

Employment Type:Full-Time; Some After-Hours and Weekend Work

Position Overview

O’Keefe Media Group (OMG) is an independent media organization founded by investigative journalist James O’Keefe. OMG produces investigative reporting, undercover journalism, and original programming focused on institutional accountability and government and corporate misconduct, supported by an in-house media team and nationwide citizen journalists.

OMG seeks a hands-on Technical Operations Engineer to independently maintain its websites, revenue systems, cybersecurity, office technology, production facilities, and investigative field equipment. This is a sole-technologist, individual-contributor role requiring urgency, practical troubleshooting, discretion, and end-to-end ownership rather than staff or vendor management.

Areas of Accountability

Website and Revenue Systems

Objective:Maintain reliable, secure, measurable websites and revenue technology that support rapid campaign execution.

Measures of Success

  • •  Websites, hosting, CMS, plugins, performance, uptime, and security remain reliable and current.
  • •  Landing pages, donation pages, and forms are built or updated rapidly, including same-day campaign needs.
  • •  HubSpot properties, forms, lists, workflows, permissions, and records are accurate and maintained.
  • •  Website, CRM, donation, merchandise, email, and analytics integrations function reliably through native tools, APIs, webhooks, or automation platforms.
  • •  Donations, sales, and signups are captured correctly with source attribution; failures are identified and resolved quickly.
  • •  GA4, pixels, UTMs, and conversion events provide dependable marketing and revenue reporting.

Security and Access Management

Objective: Protect OMG’s accounts, devices, investigative information, and essential data from compromise or loss.

Measures of Success

  • •  MFA, password management, least-privilege access, and phishing defenses are consistently enforced.
  • •  Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365 accounts are administered securely; departing employees’ access is promptly revoked.
  • •  Mac, Windows, and mobile endpoints are patched, encrypted, protected, and remotely manageable.
  • •  Sensitive source information and investigative material are stored and transmitted securely with restricted access.
  • •  Critical systems have tested backups and practical recovery procedures.

Office Infrastructure and Asset Management

Objective:Keep the office network and employee technology dependable, secure, and ready for daily work.

Measures of Success

  • •  Firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi, VPN, internet connectivity, and VoIP operate reliably.
  • •  Workstations, phones, printers, and peripherals are deployed, repaired, and retired as needed.
  • •  An accurate, practical inventory of technology assets is maintained.
  • •  New hires receive working equipment and access before day one; offboarding is completed promptly.
  • •  Technology issues are resolved directly and quickly, with appropriate escalation for specialized work.

Production and Investigative Technology

Objective:Ensure studios, live production, editing systems, and field recording equipment are ready when needed.

Measures of Success

  • •  Podcast studios, livestream equipment, editing workstations, storage, and meeting-room AV remain production-ready.
  • •  Body-worn and concealed cameras, audio recorders, batteries, and media are prepared, tested, and maintained.
  • •  Journalists receive clear equipment guidance, and captured footage is offloaded and preserved securely.
  • •  Failed storage media is assessed and recoverable data is restored when feasible.
  • •  New production and field equipment is evaluated and recommended based on operational needs.

Documentation and Operational Continuity

Objective: Reduce downtime and single-person dependency through documentation, risk management, and direct accountability.

Measures of Success

  • •  System configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps are documented and kept current.
  • •  Operational risks, technology costs, and replacement needs are communicated early with clear recommendations.
  • •  Urgent issues during live stories, campaigns, evenings, or weekends receive timely response.
  • •  External specialists are engaged when necessary without sacrificing internal ownership of outcomes.

Qualifications

  • •  Four or more years of hands-on IT, website, or systems experience, preferably in a solo or small-team environment.
  • •  Experience administering WordPress or similar platforms, with working HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and form/plugin troubleshooting skills.
  • •  Experience with HubSpot or a comparable CRM and platform integrations using APIs, webhooks, Zapier, or Make.
  • •  Knowledge of firewalls, VLANs, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, and email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  • •  Experience with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365, macOS, Windows, and mobile device management.
  • •  Practical knowledge of MFA, endpoint protection, encryption, backups, and access controls.
  • •  Ability to troubleshoot cameras, audio systems, and small electronic devices.
  • •  Strong judgment, confidentiality, responsiveness, and ability to resolve urgent issues independently.
  • •  Willingness to travel up to 10% and work occasional evenings or weekends. A degree is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • •  Experience with donation platforms such as Anedot, WinRed, Givebutter, or Stripe, and e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.
  • •  Livestream production experience with OBS, vMix, StreamYard, or Restream.
  • •  Forensic data recovery experience.
  • •  Experience in journalism, political organizations, nonprofits, or startups.
  • •  Relevant certifications such as Network+, Security+, or CCNA.
