The ReStore Team Lead supports the ReStore Management team in the daily operation of the Austin Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This position serves as a working supervisor responsible for leading employees, volunteers and customer service activities while ensuring efficient store operations, donation processing, merchandising, inventory management and safety compliance.

The Team Lead provides day-to-day direction to staff, monitors workflow and productivity, reinforces operational standards and helps create a positive customer-focused environment. This role is actively involved in all areas of store operations, including retail sales, donation intake, production, merchandising, cashiering, inventory control, housekeeping and lossprevention. 

1. Store Operations Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate daily store operations to ensure efficient and effective workflow.
  • Support opening and closing procedures and ensure all operational standards are followed.
  • Assign daily responsibilities and monitor progress to ensure production, sales, and customer service goals are achieved.
  • Communicate operational priorities, goals, and expectations to staff through daily huddles and ongoing coaching.
  • Monitor store appearance and ensure housekeeping standards are consistently maintained.
  • Assist with staffing coverage and provide floor leadership as needed.
  • Participate in all operational functions, including sales floor support, receiving, donation processing, merchandising, cashiering, and inventory activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings and training sessions.

2. Team Leadership and Employee Development

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and direction to ReStore employees under the guidance of the Assistant Manager and General Manager.
  • Train and onboard new employees on operational procedures, safety standards, customer service expectations, and organizational policies.
  • Reinforce accountability through clear communication of job expectations and performance standards.
  • Provide timely feedback, guidance, and support to promote employee growth and development.
  • Assist management in identifying training needs and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication among staff.

3. Customer and Donor Experience

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to customers, donors, volunteers, and community members.
  • Promote a welcoming and positive shopping and donation experience.
  • Address customer concerns professionally and seek appropriate resolution.
  • Escalate unresolved customer issues to management when necessary.
  • Build positive relationships that support the mission and reputation of Austin Habitat for Humanity.

4. Donation Processing, Merchandising, and Inventory

  • Assist in overseeing donation intake, receiving, processing, pricing, and merchandising activities.
  • Ensure merchandise is appropriately processed, displayed, and stocked to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Support inventory control practices and maintain accurate records related to donations and merchandise movement.
  • Coordinate merchandise flow between receiving, processing, and sales floor operations.
  • Help maintain adequate inventory levels and organized storage areas.

5. Cash Handling and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support daily cash management procedures, including drawer reconciliation and deposit preparation.
  • Monitor point-of-sale transactions and ensure compliance with established cash-handling procedures.
  • Assist with administrative and clerical duties related to store operations.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, reports, and tracking logs.
  • Verify donation documentation and support required reporting processes.
  • Track volunteer and Community Service Restitution (CSR) hours and maintain related records.

6. Volunteer and Community Service Program Support

  • Assist with the coordination and supervision of volunteers and CSR participants.
  • Verify required documentation and orientation completion.
  • Evaluate skills and assign appropriate duties based on operational needs
  • Provide training, guidance, and oversight while ensuring a safe and productive experience.

7. Safety, Security, and Loss Prevention

  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the store.
  • Conduct and support daily safety inspections and hazard identification activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all Austin Habitat for Humanity policies and procedures.
  • Report safety concerns, accidents, theft, misuse of company property, or policy violations promptly.
  • Maintain security standards and support loss prevention efforts.
  • Ensure employees, volunteers, customers, and donors operate within established safety guidelines.

8. Other Duties

  • Maintain regular attendance and adherence to scheduled work hours.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a retail environment.
  • Experience supervising and developing employees.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and motivate employees and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic cash handling, retail operations, and inventory management knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • High school diploma or equivalent


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, as well as frequent entry and exit from vehicles. The employee must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to50 pounds, with or without assistance.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, noise, dust, and donated materials.

For safety reasons, employees in this role can be required to wear closed‑toe, reinforced footwear (such as steel‑toe or composite‑toe shoes) while performing loading, unloading, and warehouse‑related duties. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on assigned tasks.
