Tax Preparer (Temporary/Seasonal) - Neighborhood Tax Centers (2861)

BakerRipley Neighborhood Tax Centers (NTC) is the largest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in the nation. Our mission is to promote financial stability in underserved communities by providing free, high-quality tax preparation services and connecting families to essential resources. Each year, NTC prepares over 36,000 tax returns for low-income families at more than 20 locations in high-need neighborhoods throughout the Greater Houston Area. Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Tax Preparer is responsible for accurately preparing high-quality tax returns, reviewing those prepared by volunteers, and assisting the Tax Center Manager in addressing tax-related inquiries from clients and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interview taxpayer to determine if all income, deductions, and allowable credits are claimed
• Prepare only those tax returns for which training was provided
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding taxpayer information and documentation.
• Conduct a thorough on-site quality review of completed returns before the taxpayer signs.
• Adhere to NTC procedures and guidelines as instructed during training and at tax site locations.

Qualifications:

• Requires a detail-oriented, organized, efficient individual who can multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Must complete training and pass the Advanced IRS Volunteer Tax Preparer Certification
• Must be willing to assist all taxpayers within the VITA/TCE scope
• Friendly, dependable, and flexible

All candidates selected must pass the IRS Advanced Certification and complete the Tax Preparer training provided by Neighborhood Tax Centers.
