AWS Database Administrator - #35310

As aDatabase Administrator, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving IBM Db2 database environments running primarily in AWS, with a focus on performance, availability, capacity, and reliability. You will work as part of a geographically distributed technology team and collaborate closely with Platform Architects, Infrastructure, Development, and Operations teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·          Manage and maintain database environments hosted in AWS, including databases running within EC2 HADR environments

·          Monitor and optimize database performance, availability, capacity, and overall reliability

·          Support IBM Db2 environments and contribute to database-related projects, upgrades, and improvements

·          Support PostgreSQL environments where applicable

·          Manage and troubleshoot high-availability database clusters, including multi-node environments

·          Support disaster recovery (DR), backup and recovery, and database resilience activities

·          Investigate and resolve database-related L2/L3 incidents, including performance issues, cluster issues, system jobs, and other production incidents

·          Participate in the investigation and resolution of P1/P2 incidents, including after-hours incidents when required

·          Monitor database and infrastructure environments using relevant observability and monitoring tools

·          Support database migrations, upgrades, configuration changes, and other technical projects

·          Perform capacity management and identify potential performance, storage, or resource constraints before they affect production systems

·          Work within established incident and change management processes, ensuring issues and changes are properly investigated, documented, and resolved

·          Collaborate with Platform Architects and other technical teams on platform governance, automation, and database best practices

·          Contribute to automation and improvements that make database operations more efficient, reliable, and repeatable

·          Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, responding to production incidents and support requests within the expected response time

·          Work effectively with geographically distributed teams and communicate clearly with colleagues across different regions

·        Solid hands-on experience as a Database Administrator or in a closely related database infrastructure role

·        At least 3 years of hands-on AWS experience supporting mission-critical production database environments

·        Strong experience with PostgreSQL or another relevant enterprise relational database

·        Strong experience of database maintenance including performance, high availability, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and capacity management

·        Experience troubleshooting production database issues, including performance problems, cluster issues, system jobs, and availability-related incidents.

·        Experience working with Linux/operating systems in a database or infrastructure environment

·        Experience working with incident and change management processes, particularly in a production or mission-critical environment

·        Ability to independently investigate technical issues and demonstrate clear ownership of database-related problems

·        Experience working with cloud infrastructure, database tooling, monitoring, or observability platforms

·        Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with geographically distributed technical teams

·        Willingness and ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, including responding to critical incidents outside regular working hours

Advantageous or Nice to haves:

·        Hands-on experience with IBM DB2, particularly DB2 on AWS/EC2

·        Strong PostgreSQL experience

·        Experience with high-availability clusters, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery

·        Experience with Bash/shell/Python scripting and automation

·        Familiarity with Bitbucket, JIRA, and observability/monitoring tools

·        Experience supporting cloud migrations, upgrades, and mission-critical systems

·        IBM DB2 certification is an advantage
