The Human Resources Business Partner serves as a trusted advisor to university leaders, managers, faculty, and staff, providing practical and strategic HR guidance across assigned areas.

This role supports employee and labor relations, workplace investigations, compensation, organizational effectiveness, leave administration, policy and compliance, workforce planning, and HR technology.

The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, sound employee relations experience, and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted HR advisor to leaders and managers across assigned university areas.
  • Provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and organizational change.
  • Conduct and support workplace investigations with a focus on fairness, consistency, documentation, and sound judgment.
  • Support labor relations matters, including collective bargaining agreement interpretation, grievances, and represented employee issues.
  • Advise on compensation, job classification, organizational structure, and internal equity.
  • Provide guidance on employment law, HR policy, employee leaves, accommodations, and compliance.
  • Coach managers through complex employee matters and workforce decisions.
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, and position development.
  • Use Workday, HR data, and technology to improve HR processes and service delivery.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience.
  • Experience with employee relations, workplace investigations, and manager coaching and consultation.
  • Experience with labor relations or represented employees.
  • Experience with compensation, classification, or organizational design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, Minnesota, and applicable local employment laws and employee leave requirements, including FMLA, Minnesota Paid Leave, Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time, accommodations, and related leave requirements.
  • Strong investigation, problem-solving, communication, and judgment skills.
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HR experience in higher education or another complex organization.
  • Hands-on Workday experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Docs, Sheets, and Drive.
  • Experience with Minnesota employment laws, leave programs and ADA accommodations.
  • Experience with HR analytics, policy development, or workforce planning.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or comparable certification.

This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE, exempt position based at Hamline University's Saint Paul campus. The position is hybrid, with four days in the office and one remote workday per week on a rotating basis. During the first three month probationary period, this position requires full-time, five (5) days per week on campus.

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year based on experience level.
