The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Pharmacist to work at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent, under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or her/his designee the Staff Pharmacist, ensures the safe appropriate and cost-effective use of medications in conjunction with the prompt and accurate delivery of medications to patients.  Physician orders and patient medication profiles are reviewed, processed and checked and drug therapies are monitored for drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications. Drug information is provided to healthcare professionals and patients to assist in providing rational drug therapy.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS​

• StaffPharmacists monitor andsupervisetheoperationofthecentralized intravenousadmixtureprogram, with a heavyemphasis on thepreparationandmonitoringofchemotherapeutictherapies.

• StaffPharmacistsensure theaccurate and efficientpreparation and delivery of total parenteral nutrition solutions, injectablechemotherapy, antibiotics, and othermedications for intravenous therapy.

• Dosageamounts and intravenouscompatibilities are accuratelydetermined.

• Patient profiles and new orders arereviewed toprevent druginteractions and contraindications.

• Staff Pharmacists supervise the unit-dose drug distributionprogram. Patient profiles and new orders are reviewed toprevent druginteractions andcontraindications.

• Aworkingknowledgeofthepharmacycomputer system and softwareprograms is required.

• StaffPharmacistsensure the accurateandpromptdeliveryofunit-dosemedicationsandcontrolledsubstances tohospitalinpatients.

• Appropriate records and inventory on all drugs aremaintained as required.

• Emergency drug stocks inpatient care areas are accurately filled in a timelymanner.

• Staff Pharmacists accuratelycompound and dispense medicinalsof a special nature that are not readily availablefrommanufacturers.

• Staff Pharmacistsprovide current andaccurate druginformation to health care professionals and patients.

• Druginformationprovidedincludes athoroughunderstandingofnewmedications,dosagerequirements, indications, contraindications,pharmacology, side effects, adverse reactions,precautions,and suitable formularyagents for use in specific therapies.

• Staff Pharmacists supervise the accurate and efficient dispensing of outpatient prescriptions for discharge, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and employee patients.

• Staff Pharmacists effectivelycommunicate withphysicians, nurses, purchasing technicians,pharmacy technicians, other hospitalpersonnel, and hospital patients.

• Theirprompt and effective communication with hospital personnel and patients promotes and ensuresrational drug therapy.

• Staff Pharmacists train andsupervisetechnicalstaffmembers,externs andinterns inestablished policies and procedures for our hospital and clinics and department.

• Staff Pharmacists or theirdesignee inspectnursing units and clinics to monitor the proper storage and distribution of patient floor stock, controlled drugs, andemergencymedications.

• StaffPharmacistscompounddrugsbyreading avariety of prescriptions or vouchers,computing dosages, weighing andmeasuring ormixing drugs followingestablishedpharmaceuticaltechniques.

• StaffPharmacistsreviewcompounding workcompleted by subordinatepharmacists’ externs, interns andPharmacytechnicians.

• StaffPharmacistsdispense controlledsubstances in accordance with strictsecurityprocedures,maintaining accuratecontrol andinventory records and preparingdosage sheets.

• StaffPharmacists assist in periodic audit ofcontrolledsubstances at nursing stations and inPyxis units.

• Staff Pharmacists participate in thedrug useevaluation process and contribute to qualityimprovementactivities.

• Staff Pharmacistsperform allother job-related duties asassignedbytheDirectorofPharmacyServices orher/his designee.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

• Pharm.D. degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy

• Requires current licensure in good standing in the State of Florida

• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
