Schemmer is seeking a Survey Crew Chief in Tulsa to lead field work for boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, control, and construction surveys. You will plan and carry out daily assignments, direct field staff, collect and check survey data, and provide clear records to the office survey team. You will work closely with a Professional Land Surveyor and CAD staff on projects across Oklahoma. Some assignments require travel and overnight stays.

What You’ll Do

You will be successful in this position by completing safe, accurate field work, documenting the evidence you find, and communicating issues early enough for the team to address them.

• Plan the day’s field work using the assignment, available deeds and plats, prior survey information, and project plans.
• Lead a survey crew and perform field assignments independently when the work and conditions permit.
• Establish and check control; collect boundary evidence, improvements, utilities, topography, and construction measurements as required by the assignment.
• Operate GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, levels, and data collectors; perform field checks and basic survey calculations.
• Keep complete field notes, sketches, photographs, point descriptions, and records of monuments found or set.
• Check data for completeness and consistency before leaving a site. Bring missing information, conflicting evidence, access problems, and scope changes to the PLS or project manager promptly.
• Download, organize, and hand off field data so CAD staff can process it without reconstructing what happened on site.
• Direct and train field technicians; maintain equipment, supplies, and the crew vehicle.
• Follow Schemmer’s safety procedures and applicable site requirements, including traffic and construction site controls.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

• Practical experience leading boundary, topographic, control, ALTA, or construction survey field work.
• Sound judgment about field procedures and the ability to recognize evidence or measurements that need a PLS’s review.
• Proficiency with GNSS, robotic total stations, levels, and data collectors. Experience with Trimble equipment is helpful; comparable systems are welcome.
• Ability to read deeds, plats, survey maps, and construction plans well enough to execute a field assignment.
• Clear communication with field staff, office staff, property owners, and contractors.
• A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Education and Credentials

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Survey coursework, an associate degree, or a Surveyor Intern credential is welcome but isnot required for this field leadership role.
• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and experience collecting drone imagery or survey data preferred.

Experience

Three or more years of progressively responsible survey field experience, including experience leading a crew or taking responsibility for complete field assignments. We will consider demonstrated field capability alongside years of experience.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work primarily outdoors on developed sites, construction sites, roadsides, and uneven terrain in varying Oklahoma weather.
• Walk and stand for extended periods; carry and set up survey equipment and supplies, occasionally weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Drive to project sites throughout Oklahoma; some assignments involve early starts or overnight travel.
• Perform occasional computer work to review assignments and organize field data.
