Summary:
Company creates evidence-based microlearning video and digital patient education that is delivered through hospitals' electronic health record (EHR) systems and patient portals. You will partner with the Chief Medical Officer to lead the clinical accuracy, governance, and strategy of our patient education library, and to serve as a clinical voice in the design of the technology that delivers the right education to the right patient at the right point in their care. This role blends physician expertise, plain-language content creation, and clinical informatics. You will shape what we teach patients, ensure it reflects current evidence, and help define how content is triggered, delivered, documented, and measured inside EHR workflows and AI-powered product features.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Education Content Development:
- Create market-leading microlearning content for patients and caregivers, including topic identification, learning objectives, outlines, and clinical support of video production through final clinical sign-off.
- Develop and maintain content across specialties, including, but not limited to, ambulatory care, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, emergency medicine, surgery and perioperative care, oncology, maternal and child health, behavioral health, and any clinical areas company enters.
- Review current clinical practice guidelines, consensus statements, and primary literature (e.g., Client/AHA, ADA, USPSTF, CDC, specialty society guidance) and translate them into accurate, actionable patient messaging.
- Apply health literacy and plain-language best practices (e.g., 4th-7th grade reading level, teach-back, PEMAT understandability/actionability), and ensure content is culturally responsive, inclusive, and accessible (captioning, ADA/Section 508/WCAG considerations).
- Partner on multilingual adaptation of content, with attention to clinical and cultural accuracy in translation.
- Clinical Content Governance and Quality:
- Manage medical review of the content library in adherence to established refresh/review protocols, including review cycles, version control, citation standards, and documented clinical sign-off.
- Help lead content surveillance: monitor guideline updates, drug safety communications, and practice changes, and prioritize content for revision or retirement. Validate outputs of AI-assisted surveillance tools that flag outdated content.
- Maintain editorial standards and a clinical style guide; contribute to the harmonization of combined Company content assets, taxonomy, and metadata.
- Triage and resolve clinical questions, client-reported issues, and content-related safety concerns in a timely, documented manner.
- Cross-Functional, Market, and Client Support:
- Support internal cross-functional teams by clarifying medical and educational content for product, sales, marketing, and operations; convey messaging about our products and processes to external audiences.
- Advise on positioning of solutions to hospitals and health systems for patient education and staff training, helping define value propositions and cost/benefit (ROI) analyses.
- Help strategize on sales accounts, participate in client presentations, and facilitate introductions to new prospects and partners.
- Collaborate with Elsevier Health colleagues to align content, clinical standards, and go-to-market efforts.
- Subject Matter Expert Network and Thought Leadership:
- Recommend and engage key medical thought leaders to join advisory panels and grow subject matter expert (SME) review panels; recruit, onboard, and maintain communication with SMEs through new content creation and refresh of established content.
- Be a thought leader in patient education, microlearning, and digital health • Engage within the medical community to increase awareness of offerings.
- Outcomes, Evidence, and Feedback:
- Gather patient, caregiver, and clinician feedback on content by conducting feedback sessions, usability testing, and surveys.
- Organize peer review when needed and convene the appropriate peer advisory board.
- Help design and interpret outcome studies and analytics (e.g., engagement, knowledge retention, patient experience/HCAHPS, readmissions, length of stay, adherence) to demonstrate clinical and financial value.
