Build Your Career While Making a Difference

Quinault Wellness Center (QWC) is looking for a compassionate and motivated Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) who is ready to grow as a clinician while making a meaningful difference in the lives of people and families.

This is more than an entry point into the behavioral health field—it is an opportunity to learn, develop your clinical skills, and build the experience needed to become a Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) while working alongside experienced professionals in an integrated healthcare environment.

As an SUDPT, you will provide substance use disorder counseling, assessment, case management, education, care coordination, and recovery support services under the supervision of an approved Washington State SUDP supervisor. You will gain hands-on experience while receiving the supervision, coaching, feedback, and support needed to develop your clinical knowledge, judgment, and confidence.

At QWC, we believe effective recovery care starts with seeing the whole person—not just the substance use disorder. Our approach recognizes the connection between substance use, physical and mental health, trauma, culture, family, housing, social circumstances, and other factors that can influence a person's health and recovery.

You will work with patients receiving a variety of treatment approaches, including individuals receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and individuals participating in substance use disorder treatment without MOUD. You will learn how counseling, recovery support, healthcare, and community resources can come together to support each person's individual goals.

As you grow in the role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in comprehensive substance use disorder assessments and learn to understand each patient's history, strengths, needs, risks, goals, and barriers to care.
  • Provide individual and group counseling under appropriate supervision.
  • Participate in family, couple, or significant-other counseling or education when appropriately trained and supervised.
  • Help develop and update individualized treatment plans that reflect each patient's strengths, preferences, culture, values, and recovery goals.
  • Use motivational interviewing and other evidence-based or evidence-informed approaches as you develop your clinical skills.
  • Help patients identify triggers, strengths, support systems, coping strategies, and practical tools for achieving or maintaining recovery.
  • Provide education and recovery support related to substance use, relapse prevention, wellness, harm reduction, overdose prevention, and available resources.
  • Learn how substance use disorder treatment connects with primary care, behavioral health, nursing, peer support, and other healthcare services.
  • Support patients receiving MOUD while also providing services to individuals whose treatment does not include medication.
  • Assist patients in connecting with healthcare, behavioral health, housing, transportation, employment, recovery, social service, and community resources.
  • Participate in care coordination, referrals, treatment team discussions, discharge planning, and transitions to other levels of care.
  • Recognize patient safety concerns, changes in condition, withdrawal or intoxication concerns, and other situations requiring additional support—and know when to seek assistance.
  • Participate in crisis response, de-escalation, harm reduction, and overdose-prevention efforts within your training and level of competency.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation.
  • Participate fully in individual and group clinical supervision, using feedback and coaching to strengthen your clinical skills and professional judgment.
  • Establish and work toward individualized professional development goals and track the supervised experience required for SUDP certification.
  • Grow your competency and independence over time while continuing to work within the appropriate level of supervision.

A place to learn. A place to grow. A place to make an impact.

If you are passionate about helping people, believe recovery can look different for every individual, and want to develop your career in a supportive clinical environment, QWC offers an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals while becoming an important part of a multidisciplinary care team.
