Student Support Services - Professional Tutor

Summary: Reports directly to the Student Support Services Director and provides English and writing tutoring to Student Support Services participants in individual and group settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide group and/or individual tutoring on an appointment or walk-in basis;
2. Assist in the development of study skills necessary for successful course completion; 
3. Maintain accurate and current documentation of participant contact and progress;
4. Establish a high degree of rapport with participants from various backgrounds and with a variety of learning styles;
5. Conduct workshops on topics related to area(s) of expertise;
6. Provide a friendly atmosphere that is conducive to the success of SSS participants;
7. Maintain a professional attitude and demeanor with participants at all times;
8. Encourage students to become independent learners by suggesting effective study tools;
9. Participate in trainings as required; 
10. Provide office assistance as needed;
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

• 1.    A minimum of an Associate’s Degree and at least a 3.0 GPA in the subject(s) tutored will be required;
• 2.    Effective verbal and written communication skills; and
• 3.    Responsibility, a desire to help others, and a willingness to be flexible in scheduling tutorial sessions will be required.
