Job Title: Storage Engineer Zfs

Location:San Francisco, CA / REMOTE

Mode : Contract (6+ Months)

Rate - $42/hr.on W2/Danta on Technologies payroll

JOB DESCRIPTION

Design , Scale & Configuration : Architect, deploy, and manage enterprise-grade ZFS storage clusters (OpenZFS / TrueNAS Enterprise / custom FreeBSD/Linux deployments) to support demanding production workloads.

Storage Optimization: Configure, tune, and maintain storage pools (zpools), vdev layouts, datasets, ZIL/SLOG, and L2ARC to optimize for high-IOPS and bandwidth requirements.

Capacity Planning: Monitor storage utilization, growth trends, and lifecycle management to proactively scale compute and capacity ahead of business demand.

Performance Tuning: Conduct deep performance analysis and benchmarking; troubleshoot complex I/O bottlenecks across ZFS, kernel, network, and hardware layers.

Data Integrity & Protection: Implement robust backup, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies using native ZFS replication, snapshot schedules, send/receive pipelines, and scrub routines.

High Availability: Design and maintain multi-controller HA storage configurations and multipath I/O (MPIO) architectures.

Data Recovery: Experience with ZFS pool recovery techniques, repairing degraded arrays, and managing hardware failures without data loss.

Storage Protocols: Expertise in enterprise protocols including NFS, SMB/CIFS, iSCSI, and NVMe-oF.
Hardware & Interconnects: Extensive experience with storage server hardware, SAS/SATA/NVMe topologies, HBAs, JBODs, and high-speed networking (10GbE–100GbE, InfiniBand, RDMA).

Core Expertise - Deep, hands-on expertise with ZFS / OpenZFS in production environments. Expert understanding of ZFS internals (vdev topologies, ARC management, ZIL/SLOG selection, dataset properties, record sizes, compression, deduplication, and snapshot lifecycle)

Experience level - 8+ Hands-on experience in enterprise storage engineering and systems administration with core expertise in ZFs
