The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.

  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive healthhistories.

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical forpatients.

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.

  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatmentmodalities

  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologicstability.

  • Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federalregulations.

  • Monitors the effectiveness ofinterventions.

  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriatereferrals.

  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educationaltools.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

COREQUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid State of Florida APRNLicense

  • Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) through organizations such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).

Experience:

  • Prior clinical experience, preferably in a neurology or pediatric setting. Experience in managingpatients preferred.

Knowledge, Skills andAttitudes:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making criticaldecisions.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meetingdeadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborativeenvironment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and writtenform.

 Department SpecificFunctions                                                                                                                                

  • Perform history and physical exams for patient visits.

  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnosticprocedures.

  • Generate clinical revenue through billing for clinicalencounters.

  • Provide patient education. Participate in patient/family intervention.

  • Counsel patients and families regarding quality issues affecting patients with headache neurologydisorders. Respond to medical emergencies asnecessary.

  • Perform medical procedures independently, such as Botox for chronic migraines, affecting patients with headache and other related disorders.

  • Conduct multidisciplinary discharge planning, responsible for the plan of care of each patient, make face-to-face evaluation for equipment and coordinate medical authorizations.

  • Complete disability forms, insurance medical authorizations, and worker compensationforms.

  • Assist in the oversight of medical assistantresponsibilities.

  • Facilitate care between physicianvisits. Coordination of care, such as hospital admissions and referrals. Submit billing and complete patient visits report in the EMS in a timelymanner. Other duties as assigned by the Headache DivisionChief.
